I was surprised to see that someone from a major publication was taking this stance.

Defensive Player of the Year: Shawn Marion, Suns
With perennial candidates Ben Wallace, Bruce Bowen, Ron Artest and Andrei Kirilenko having subpar seasons (at least for them), this award is as wide open as it has been in a long time. Marion gets the call for now for his versatility and game-changing athleticism.
The Matrix guards everyone from Nowitzki to Tim Duncan, depending on Phoenix's needs at any given time, and still finds time to rack up 7.9 defensive rebounds per game (seventh in the NBA), 2.12 steals (third) and 1.49 blocks (19th). Suns coach Mike D'Antoni has even been putting him on opposing point guards this season. Denver's Marcus Camby has been sensational on the boards and blocking shots, but it remains to be seen if he can stay healthy enough over the course of the season to warrant the honor over a reliable stalwart like Marion.

I'd be soooo happy for Shawn!

Hope this kind of talk will spread amongst the ranks of NBA writers.

It would be fantastic for the team if Shawn won this award. It would give him a sense of appreciation and a league wide identity on a loaded roster. He might quite being frustrated about being under-appreciated.

Nash--MVP
Barbosa--MIP
Marion--DPY
Stoudemire--All-Star starter

That would be a great award for Marion.
I think that Amare has a shot at comeback player of the year right?

JCSunsFan.....

Actually it should be like this (closest competitor in parenthesis)...

Nash.....MVP x3 (Dirk)
Barbosa.....Sixth Man (Gordon..if they put him back on the bench)
Marion.....Defensive POY (Camby...if he stays healthy)
Amare....Most Improved POY (Boozer..Jazz....and Martin from Sac)
Gorilla....Mascot of the Year (Who knows)
Suns.....2007 NBA Champions (Mavs)

Marion should at least make the all-defensive team, which he has deserved the last couple years...and didn't get.

I say Nash is most improved player. I'm only semi-joking.

Comeback player of the year award isn't a real award. It is just something that some columnists will hand out in their season review.

There is no way Amare gets most improved. He was an MVP candidate before the injury. Most improved is all but locked up by Kevin Martin.

He deserves every award.
