While everyone has been focusing on the Great 8’s quest to break Wayne Gretzky’s goal record this season, Sidney Crosby has quietly broken one of The Great One’s records himself. On Thursday night, Crosby clinched his 20th point-per-game season, giving him the most point-per-game seasons in NHL history. Talk about consistency!
Another Milestone for Crosby
Crosby’s legacy continues to grow: he has three Stanley Cups and two league MVPs, recently led Canada to its first 4 Nations Cup victory, and now he’s surpassed one of Gretzky’s records. It’s no surprise that his collectibles have always been in high demand. Just last month, his game-worn 4 Nations jersey sold for $30,000. When it comes to his sports cards, his RCs have been a prized chase since he entered the league. Here are a few of his most prized:
2005–06 The Cup Sidney Crosby RC #180 - Released in 2005–06 as Upper Deck’s inaugural high-end set, The Cup Hockey coincided perfectly with Crosby’s rookie year. This card is one of his rarest, regularly fetching at least five figures at auctions. One is currently listed on Goldin (ending March 29th), and in 2022, one variation sold for $91,800.

2005–06 Sidney Crosby Rookie Card #201 Young Guns - One of his most recognizable rookie cards, the Young Guns series is widely regarded as one of hockey’s most popular non-autographed sets. In the past 30 days, PSA 10 copies have sold for between $2,780 and $2,880 - still expensive, but considerably more attainable than The Cup RC.

2005–06 Ice Sidney Crosby Rookie Card #106 - Only 99 were made, and it’s arguably one of his highest-quality cards. This Ice Premiere release boasts a signature clear, modern look, printed on acetate. Demand and pricing for this card are sky-high due to its low print run, with a raw copy selling for nearly $12,000 back in September of last year - not cheap!

2005–06 Trilogy Sidney Crosby Rookie Card #211 - Featuring a numbered run (/999) from the Upper Deck Trilogy series, this card offers a mix of eye appeal and rarity. Prices have stayed relatively accessible as far as a Crosby RC goes, often landing in the few-hundred-dollar range for most grades.

What’s Next for Sid?
There isn’t much left for Crosby to prove - he’s done it all, from Stanley Cups to Olympic gold medals. Crosby is currently climbing the NHL’s all-time scoring list, sitting in ninth place and on track to surpass Mario Lemieux for eighth next season. Given how well he continues to perform, it’s not far-fetched to imagine he’ll finish among the league’s top five point scorers by the end of his career. For collectors looking to score a prime Crosby rookie card, there’s no time like the present.
