Well, our Cardinals officially have hit a new low. Only Arizona could make Joey Harrington look like Y.A. Freakin' Tittle, which he did yesterday in throwing for three TDs and zero interceptions in his return as the Lions' starting QB. Somehow we allowed the lowly Lions, one of the NFC's most putrid offensive outfits, to score 29 points as we dropped our third straight. Oh, the indignity! Of course, on offense we were just as spectacular, rushing for all of 38 yards — which was less than two different Lion runners had. And that J.J. Arrington has been quite a find. Yesterday he finally scored his first career TD — in the 10th flippin' week of the season. He now has his season rushing totals up to a robust 140 yards. Way to burn a second-round pick, guys. And why is washed-up Kurt Warner (0-5 as a starter) taking snaps at QB that should go to Josh McCown, our future? And finally (we know, we're ranting) there comes word that Bert Berry, our sack leader with six, is most likely done for the year with a torn left pectoral. Haven't we suffered enough? You know, there was a saying in that movie "Jarhead" that the soldiers used to describe life at the front lines. They'd say, "Welcome to the suck." From now on, that line will also apply to Cardinals football.

When I moved from Syracuse, NY to the Washington, DC area in 1982, I began seeing the Cardinals play the Skins every year.

1982 - 0-28
1983 - 7-45
1984 - 27-29 (We got screwed in this one)
1985 - 10-27
1986 - 21-28
1987 - 21-28
1988 - 17-33
1989 - 28-30
1990 - 0-31
1991 - 0-34
1992 - 3-41

I also drove to Philly twice & saw them lose
1992 - 3-7
1993 - 17-23

That's 13 straight losses I endured sitting through. Then a miracle happened in 1993 @ Wash. The Skins were defending Super Bowl Champs & had thrashed us 3 years running. My Mom & Dad were in town, so I found 4 tickets & took them & my wife (Redskin fan) to the game. My Dad has been a Cardinal fan since the 50's, but my Mom knew almost NOTHING about football. My Dad wore no Cardinal gear, but my Mom was decked out in Cardinal red. She swore up & down that the Cardinals would win & everyone around us laughed at her. I informed her that I had NEVER seen the Cardinals win a game there, but she persisted. The Cardinals had lost their opener in Philly (I was there) & the Skins thrashed the Cowboys the previous Monday night (I was there also). The Cardinals were about a 17 pt underdog, yet they won 17-10. The Skin fans around us were nauseated that they lost top the WORST team in professional sports history. My mother still gloats to this day.

Remember, it took me eight tries over a span of eighteen years before the Cards finally broke through for me. So what if my record is something like 2-19 (not counting the pre-season win in KC)? You know that won't stop me from seeing them play the Rams and Colts this season. So what if center Nick Leckey told me to stay away after this loss and to watch the rest of the games on dish? I had to remind him that his record isn't much better when I stay home.

Swweeeeeet. Our center has already given up hope of winning on the road at all this year. Great stuff. Nothing like giving up before the game starts. Its a Cardinal tradition this time of year.
