No you dont, but do you think Sarver is going to want to pay one player $7-8mil to sit on the bench?

Diaw is going to make more than that on his extension, so I'm not sure where your justification lies.

Maybe it's that he won't be making that in 06/07, so that means he can sit on the bench, but then in 07/08 when his extension kicks in, THEN he starts.

Call me crazy, but if we sign Diaw to a $9mil extension that starts in 07/08, Diaw immediately becomes a $9mil dollar player, regardless of how much he makes in 06/07.

remember, this is a coach who starts the best 5 players. he doesnt play a conventional lineup. this team is looking to score.

IMO, Diaw starts. Amare/Diaw/Marion/Bell/Nash.

Diaw would've came off the bench no matter what last season if Amare and K.Thomas were healthy.

Diaw's game is perfect for us off the bench if we traded for Gooden.

He would be a super 6th man, that played starter minutes.

And once again, just cause he doesnt start doesnt mean he wouldnt play with the game on the line.

But there is no way in hell you take Gooden out of the starting lineup for Diaw, cause Gooden is one of the NBA leaders in rebounds per 48min.Hes just a beast on the boards and he can score and hes bigger than Diaw so we're not losing much by starting him and bringing Diaw off the bench.

In crunch time when we need to protect a lead...

Bell
Marion
Diaw
Amare
Gooden

Crunch time and we need to score...

Nash
Barbosa
Marion
Amare
Diaw

D'Antoni would have limitless options.

Here we go... per48 minute stats to justify starting...

Regardless of who we think will start, it doesn't matter because we're not getting Gooden.

KT (if you start Diaw) or Gooden if Diaw starts.

In a S&T Gooden is going to get more; probably close to KT's $$. You want to start Diaw and sit Gooden. I'm saying, do you think Sarver will want to pay a player $7-8mil to sit on the bench?

Diaw played PF (when Amare was down) and C (when KT went down) primarily last season. If the Suns traded KT for a combo guard then it would make more sense to start Diaw - but that's not likely to happen. But, if they're trading big for big then odds are that big will start. Why trade for a big that can run the floor only to have him sit on the bench? Isn't that one of their wants?

Probably not, but you never know.

Diaw would most likely be paid MORE than Gooden, and you want him to come off the bench? Yeah, right, not for a budding all-star like Diaw.

Yes. He can fill all five positions, and would still get his 30-35mpg. I dont see the problem?

Why would he pay Diaw MORE to sit on the bench? This paragraph you wrote might actually be the biggest reason we WON'T acquire Gooden.

Wait. You want to start Gooden because he's a big that can run the floor... Hmm, then what exactly is Diaw? And he can run the floor better than Gooden!

This is what i see happening too

If we get Gooden, in 07/08 we can trade Marion and Diaw moves into the starting lineup with Amare and Gooden.

So for the guys saying we would lose Barbosa cause his money would go to Gooden, no, cause if Marion is moved to a team under the cap for draft picks and players on their rookie contracts, we would beable to afford Barbosa,Diaw and Gooden.

But for 06/07 Amare,Marion,Gooden and Diaw would be a unstoppable frontline.

Nash would average 15apg :D

Agree 100%. Marion is gone next year, most likely giving us a lineup of:

Nash
Bell
Diaw
Gooden
Amare

Works for me! Of course, this is all hypothetical. I doubt Phoenix actually finds a way to bring him here. It's fun to speculate though!

Whats wrong with that? Check Gooden's game log, almost everytime he played 30+ minutes he produced bigtime on the boards and he even scored about 14+ points per game.

Maybe, we're just discussing the rumor about the Suns being interested in him.

And it possible since the Cavs are in a win now mode, and Kurt Thomas fits their style of play and Gooden fits ours.

Both can run the floor, big difference is that we're a weak rebounding team and Gooden is one of the best rebounders in the NBA.Diaw is not.

And like i said before, we all know how Diaw sometimes looks to pass too much instead of looking for his shot.

What do you think is going to happen when Amare returns to the starting lineup? Diaw is better coming off the bench leading the second unit and being the top option on the floor.

It's okay if Diaw defers to Amare in crunch time, but i don't want to see him doing that throughout the game if their constantly on the floor at the same time, which they would be if Diaw started.

IMO, Gooden can be defended by bigger, slower players than Diaw can and besides Diaw is going to be the hub of the offense so I thinks there's little doubt about who would start. However that plays out, I think Amare, Diaw, Marion and Gooden give the Suns an excellent frontcourt rotation - and one that fits D'Antoni's style. Gooden could easily sub for any one of the other three so he would get all the PT he can handle.

Heck, we might see the four of them together along with Raja when we want our best defensive lineup on the floor.
