I thought that too. I thought the dance was perfect for that competition since all the other girls were basically being pimped out.
I just watched this one. All I've got to say is :
The only part I liked was the very end when Olive does her dance routine at the pageant.
Wow, how could you not like it? It was stinking hilarious!

I guess the situations themselves were comical, but they didn't really make me laugh. Maybe it was their deadpan delivery or the serious feeling the film had. I dunno.
I guess driving around with your dead father in the back of the WV bus was funny, but it didn't really make me laugh. And I'm easy to amuse.

I was really expecting to like it as well, but most of the scenes that were supposed to be funny just made me uncomfortable.
That's too bad DeAnna, I thought it was one of the best, most well-written comedy in a long time.
I liked them both, but not sure KKBB would be rewatchable for me.

To each, their own, I suppose. I've seen it more than once, and always pick up on something new. Some of the funniest dialog is very subtle..

Just watched "Volver" with Penelope Cruz. That movie was amazing!
Penelope was great in the role of a young mother (who was pretty resourceful and a survivor). I guess you could say it was a dark comedy, but not really; more like a mystery. Well, maybe not....it had a couple of different genres thrown in there.
I heart Pedro Almodovar.
