MIAMI -- The Philadelphia 76ers are in the midst of just trying to get to the finish line amid a tough season. They have now lost 12 in a row and are sitting at 23-56 on the season after a 117-105 loss to the Miami Heat on Monday.

With that being said, the Sixers have been playing their behinds off. The results have been predictable. Philadelphia just doesn't have the depth or the cohesion that some of these other teams do have so, of course, it will come up short more often than not.

Despite the challenges the Sixers are facing, they have been in a lot of these games and their effort, focus, and preparation has been terrific.

"Listen, I think that the results are one thing," coach Nick Nurse said after the loss on Monday. "Obviously it’s no fun, that's for sure, but the spirit, the effort, the fight is outstanding. The prep, the focus, all that stuff is outstanding. They're doing everything they can to play as well as they can."

Nurse's point is obvious. He has this team ready to go night in and night out despite the losses piling up and the situation being what it is. It is impressive to see because most teams would just pack it in and just play out the string.

"To finish the season as strong as we can," added Lonnie Walker IV. "There's really no rhyme or reason of what we're doing and things of that nature as far as like, do we want to lose? No. We’re all coming in every day with the intent to win. Everyone's still approaching the next day like we still got 82 games left and I think that's what makes it great is we got a great group of guys who are consistently putting the work until we don't have no more time left."

To Walker's point, this is a group of guys who are auditioning for their next jobs in the NBA. They want to stay in the league whether that's with the Sixers or one of the other 29 teams. This is a great opportunity for everybody involved.

"I think we're treating every day and every game like it's our last game," Walker added. "So I think there's a lot of road left as far as the future. We have a lot of young guys that are playing right now. So just trying to play at a high level. On days off, when we don’t have the game times and things of that nature just trying to grow as individuals."

Quentin Grimes has been phenomenal since joining the Sixers as a leader on the floor and off it. He sees how hard this team is working on a nightly basis to try and come up with a win.

"The mood has been great," he said. "I feel like every game we in every game, until about to, like, about four or five minutes left in the fourth quarter, and that's when the depth kind of comes into play with other teams. The experience comes into play with other teams. We got three or four guys on 10-day right now. They’re coming and trying to get them acclimated with what we do. So, I mean, it’s tough, but we fight every game."

The Sixers know that if they are a healthy bunch, they have a chance. That's why it's important to finish out the season strong and prepare for the next season.

"I feel like everyone understands what the goal is," added Adem Bona. "The bigger goal is to come back next year healthier, and compete for the championship. So right now, we’re just building towards that. So we understand what the assignment is. So no one is getting pouty or like being upset, because we all understand what the assignment is, but out there, we go out there every day. Do our best, give our best effort. The results are not going our way. It doesn't mean we're not trying, but we're giving our best out there and building towards next year."

The Sixers have three games left beginning with a Wednesday tilt with the Washington Wizards on the road.
