Returned home last night (Fri.) from vacation to see the message light blinking on my phone.
It was from Melanie, telling me that Jim was in intensive care, but "doin' OK."
Jim, the Cardinals will wait. Your only concern - Get healthy. Get strong.

Good friends of ours had their 3 year old son admitted to the hospital last night. There are some nasty germs going around right now.

Further Update
Spoke to Melanie by phone at about 1pm AZT.
Melanie still sounds upbeat. But they will probably keep Jim in the hospital for 5 - 7 days not necessarily all in intensive). After that, he's got something like a month or slightly more for rehab.
Originally, they thought it was pneumonia, but apparently it was some other bug. They've got him on heavy antibiotics (I guess that makes it bacterial).
According to Melanie, Jim's doctor likens his regimen to dealing with a big ship in the water - first you have to stop it from going in the wrong direction. Then you have to rebuild it to get it going in the right direction faster.
I relayed everyone's best wishes - at some point, Melanie will probably print out all the pages on this thread for Jim to read.

I logged on as Jim since I'm embarrassed to say I don't get on the site myself and I wanted to read the posts and give y'all an update.
He is still in ICU and had to have a tracheostomy so he can have all the junk sucked out of his lungs easier. He is somewhat despondent about the slow pace of his recovery. I have printed out all messages wishing him well and all the prayers being said on his behalf. I will take them to him along with his Cardinal's teddy bear. (Yep, I said teddy bear!)
It will be some time before he is out of ICU and an undetermined amount of time before he can come home. I have let him know that he has said, in the past, he could die happy if he only got to watch a Card's home play-off game. I intend to hold him to it.
I believe in the power of prayer, so send that positive energy his way.
