When the Pelicans matched Eric Gordon's MAX (smh) deal?

I shudder to think what our team would look like if that didn't happen.

Sliding doors moment??

A glass door moment, I could guess... you know, you think its an open door...

Ed: Oh, wait... now days a sliding door probably means a glass door. (In days of yore, sliding doors were wood.)

There was a movie in the 90's called Sliding Doors. It was about two timelines covering the same story. I just think he's talking about changing fortunes and how one seemingly minor event can shape your future. Which was the plot of Sliding Doors.

Weren't we also close to trading for Rudy Gay last deadline?

Gay, the same guy who just recently took 39 shots to score 27 pts in a double OT loss very recently....

Absolutely, there are lots of examples over the years of deals that fell through being MUCH better for the team than the ones that happened.

In Phoenix, we call sliding glass doors Arcadia doors. I wondered what that has to do with basketball. Thanks for explaining.

BTW, generally when homeowners replace Arcadia doors, they do it with fancier French doors. That doesn't mean we have to bring back Boris Diaw, does it? :)

I grew up calling them Arcadia doors too (which makes sense, I grew up in Scottsdale). BTW, Arcadia was the name of the company that made all of those sliding doors way back when. I have no idea if they still lead the industry or if they even exist but they used to be big. When I moved to California and called them Arcadia doors I drew nothing but blank stares. Everyone here calls them sliding doors or patio doors.

And we already missed our chance to bring back Boris. When you're a Spur you're a Spur all the way from your first cigarette to your last dying day.

And Arcadia also happens to be the name of my first high school. Also the home of Wonder Woman and Steven Spielberg.

And, if memory serves, my dad did the concrete work for that school (he did that for many of the Phoenix Area High Schools that were built in the mid 50's to early 60's). Arcadia is the one on 48th and Indian School right? When I was really young I lived on Osborn near 68th street which put me in the Loloma Grade School/Scottsdale High School district but the next neighborhood over ended up going to Paiute and then Arcadia even though they were technically in Scottsdale. At least that's the way I recall it.

Really? It must have changed. It used to be considered Phoenix although as I mentioned the kids close to me lived in Scottsdale but were forced to attend Arcadia. Maybe something changed when they closed Scottsdale High School.

I think in that part of town the Scottsdale border is around 64th st. But I am a child of the avenues so I could be off.

Arcadia, love that school. I had 16 tackles against their freshman football team when I was in jr. high. How did I remember that? That was a long time ago. Must have been one of those sliding door moments. :)

I lived just south of Thomas and 48th st so it was East High for me. Only the old guys actually remember East High or Gerard Hs.

It is in the City of Phoenix, but has always been in the Scottsdale School District. School Districts and city boundaries are not always the same. Scottsdale School District goes to 40th Street, north of Thomas.

Thomas Road is the dividing line in that area.

My first apartment in Phoenix was located where Gerard used to be.

Again, this just does not match my memory.

Steve

Edit: So far I have been unable to find anything that supports my memory. I could have sworn they were considered a step-child when I was growing up, not an actual Scottsdale High School.

I think not getting Gordon was an incredible blessing. With regard to expensive personnel acquisitions, I think the 2 biggest determining factors should be their defensive play and their injury history. Amare Stoudemire being my worst case scenario. Tip of the hat to Sarver for making the right decision in that instance.

Yeah if you want to point to a "Sliding Doors" type moment, not signing Amare might be the best example.

Hmmn that's an interesting point. We seemed to squander that good decision by bringing in guys like Warrick, etc. But at least we have moved on from that. The Knicks are still being hurt by Amare's contract. What would our team look like now if we had coughed up the cash to keep Amare?

I delivered the AZRepublic back in those days to that whole neighborhood. There is an old Apt Complex on the east side of 44th just south of Oak that was on my route. One of my customers in that complex was JD Hill.
