Ok, fess up.

Anyone who plays fantasy football has at least a few "Epic Fail" stories. I was talking with a buddy last night about fantasy football and some of the crazy scenarios you find yourself in.

My #1 failure is Cardinal related.

I had a week of fantasy football, in which out of the 45 players I had on the roster. Joel Mackovica was my top scorer.

If you can top that then I will be surprised.

Criminy, Rugby. That is sad.

This is a story about just not having any luck. I drafted a player buried on a depth chart, taking him really late in a keeper league draft. A few weeks in, he of course isn't on anyone's radar and I need to drop a guy to pick up a one-week starter. I drop this guy, pick up some stiff to plug into the lineup for a week, and planned on picking the guy back up again the following week.

Yeah, Maurice-Jones drew went crazy that week when everyone on the depth chart ahead of him got hurt, and I didn't get him back in waivers. In a keeper league. Even though I had the foresight to actually draft him. Ugh.

I took B. Westbrook over A. Peterson in 2008, with the belief that "AP wouldnt finish the season."

I was announced the winner in our league last year only to have the title taken two days later because of the strip/sack/fumble the jets D had on the last play against Cincinnati in week 17. I made and posted a video to commemorate the victory and everything.

I started 2-6 last year. I traded for Chris Johnson (from asuhoopsnut), and then I won six straight to make the playoffs.

I went to bed thinking I had beat the team that went on the win the championship. The next morning I found out I had lost based on a tiebreaker.

What I wanna know is what kind of Fantasy league were you playing in that allowed you 45 players on your roster? That's no fantasy league I would ever voluntarily play in.

That would be a LONG draft. DCR would LOVE it.

There is zero point in having a 45 man roster. Talent is so depleted you have to draft guys like Joel Macovicka. :)

Most Are 20-22 and thats with drafting defensive players too. If no Defense shouldn't have more than 16-18. The talent is already terrible at that point.

In my championship this past year, I had Reggie Wayne play 1st quarter, Eli Manning benched, Tony Gonzalez hurt in first quarter and Steven Jackson ruled out right before kickoff.

In suffering thru a 1-11-1 season (the worst in the 15-yr history of our league), our team had a starting lineup that was decimated by injuries and we posted a total score of 8 pts one week (scores average about 40-60 pts per week...anything over 60 pts is a decent week).

So we started a QB, 3 RBs, 3 WRs, K, D and we scored 8 pts...and I think our kicker had 3 or 4 of the 8. Needless to say, this dubious record will stand for all of time as long as this league continues.

8 pts! :thud:

I think my worst FF experience was when I was winning awesomely and then, in my playoffs, the Colts benched Manning ... and I needed him to play. This was a few years back.

I always finish second in that league ... to the same guy ... that loves to talk smack. He thinks he's a football genius, but he's really just a front runner that reads a lot on the net and listens to a lot of sports radio.

A keeper league. In which you started individual offensive players and defensive players. We were trying to involve punters, special teams guys, and offensive line man at one point too.

Extremely fun, but very time consuming. We stopped doing the league two years ago, because of the time it took.

You'd be surprised. Plus it is a lot of fun because it was a keeper league and every player got a salary. The first draft we ever conducted I got Anquan Boldin (rookie) for a $1 down, and +$2 to keep each year. It was a steal.

Of course I didn't start him for the Lions game :(

I am sorry to get back to the thread so late. I will go back and see if I can get the rules and what not.

There were holes in the system and we as group tried to balance it just right. We came close but every year something would come up and we would then change it next year.

Again. Very time consuming, but the group of guys I did it with all loved doing it when we had the time. It was only 6 teams. It was DEFINITELY not for everybody.

I like most of you enjoy the easier less time consuming league these days. But, I do miss it now and then.

But, you are right on two things: 1. There is zero point of having a 45 man roster, unless you can find enough people with the time and the want to do something that involved. 2. There where times where Joel Mackovica was your best option. LOL. Thus why we allowed multiple offensive formations to kind of go around that. But you still were starting a team's 3rd WR or something like that.

Did you really have 45 people on your roster?

Yep.

I attached one of my old rosters.

The line up was:

QB: You could start one QB

RB/WR/TE: Any NFL formation was allowed. Even 5 WR's. It had to be a legal formation, and the limit was 5 players. (I.E. - If you can find the formation in Madden Football you can use it).

K: One Kicker.

DL: At least 3 DL

LB: At least 3 LB'ers

DB: At least 3 DB's

*Any two other Defensive players regardless of position.

The scoring system changed slightly from year to year. So, I don't have that exact information anyone from the last season.

*** Practice Squad was your "Rookie Team" in our league....long story.

Had a guy in our scoring only league finally draw the #1 draft pick in 1993. Of course he takes Dan Marino who has helped whoever had him to a top 3 finish every year. The guy is ecstatic and can't stop talking about how lucky he was.

5 games into the season Marino gets hurt and is out for the year.

My problem with fantasy leagues was that I was such a homer I'd draft too many Cardinal players.

Guilty.

But it allowed me to get Boldin, Dansby, Warner and Dockett all on my team. :D

......... Duane Starks and Dexter Jackson didn't help tho.....not at all.

LOL - Thats funny.

Last year my first year in a 200 dollar keeper league I was smart enough to draft Ray Rice but when it came to for our restricted free agent portion of the draft, I franchised Brian Westbrook and left Ray available thinking no one would give up a 1sr round draft pick on him. I was big time wrong and it cost me the championship last year and will cost me the next few years as Ray Rice was everything I thought he would be in FF.

Fortunately I intend to make up for that mistake by drafting Beanie Wells earlier then anyone else this year :)
