The Georgia Bulldogs' 2024-2025 college basketball season is over after UGA lost 89-68 to the Gonzaga Bulldogs in the first-round of the NCAA Tournament. Georgia made March Madness for the first time in 10 years, which is an impressive accomplishment, but Georgia got off to a disastrous start against Gonzaga.

Georgia trailed 27-3 in the first half behind a combination of inefficient offensive play (UGA started one of 11 from the field) and seven turnovers (led to 15 Gonzaga points off turnovers).

Gonzaga got much better looks on offense than Georgia. Gonzaga's offense just looked much more fluid than Georgia's. Gonzaga had superior passing (23 assists vs. Georgia's 12) and off-ball movement. Gonzaga's selfless play and hot three-point shooting (12 of 20) were big reasons why this one was never really close.

Georgia was able to get to the free throw line some, but UGA did not convert enough of their opportunities (21 of 29 on free throws). Georgia finished the day with more turnovers (13) than assists (12), which is not a recipe for success in the NCAA Tournament.

Gonzaga's NCAA Tournament experience and well-refined offensive identity played a big role in UGA's loss.

UGA freshman Asa Newell was a bright spot. He scored 20 points and hauled in eight rebounds. Newell is likely headed to the 2025 NBA draft.

Now, Georgia will look to rebuild its roster for the 2025-2026 season. Georgia players will likely be hitting the transfer portal soon.
