I read somewhere that,in general, OL grade out the highest in the Wonderlic test given at the combine. I wonder what our guys graded out at? Because we seem to have a pretty dumb line that constantly seems to be confused by different blitz packages and line stunts. They don't seem to be able to adjust on the fly,at least not as a group. To me, Wells never seems to know who to block unless it's the man right in front of him and then that even seems to be 50/50. I think, overall talent-wise, we have a pretty talented OL but they are a bunch of guys who don't process the info fast enough to make a good, cohesive OL. I liken it to basketball. You take above average talented guys who play smart and play together and match them up against a team of superstars that play dumb and not together and the smart team will win alot more than they get beat. Heck, the Olympics and World Basketball championships are a testament to that anymore.

I have always thought this may be the problem with the Cards o-line. It would be interesting know what the GPA's, majors and wonderlic scores of the Cards ol compared to some of the elite o-lines in the nfl.

Just look at the bunch of galoots. That will give you your answer. Or better yet, try to understand a word that they say. You won't see any of our o-linemen guest anchoring on NFL Network.

I don't know if there's any tangible statistic or evidence to confirm this, but I have the growing belief that the Football IQ of our team - on both sides of the ball - is somewhere in the bottom half of all 32 teams.

We blow more assignments than most other teams. We get tricked more than we trick.

At least, that's my perception.

We are also a very young (ie. inexperienced) and some of the mistakes are due to that.

There are some bright lights. On defense, Erik Green is a very intelligent guy. James Darling is experienced and savvy. Chike Okeafor is probably the brightest guy we have on defense. He's just a little undersized.

OTOH, how many times can Bertrand Berry get suckered inside, when the opposition runs a counter, reverse, or screen pass to his side of the field. He is basically focused on one thing, getting a sack. Opponents are well-aware of that, and game-plan to take advantage of it, starting with the very first pre-season game against the Steelers.

Not anymore. The Cards are a veteran football team. No rookie has started, only Pope has seen much playing time, and only Green, Rolle and Bergen are second year players.

19 of 21 starters were guys at least in their 3rd season. 18 of 21 were with the team last year.

On the offensive line Step is the least experienced now in his 3rd season. The Oline had 22 years combined experience going into 2006.

The defense averages 5.7 years in the league counting 2006. If Macklin replaces Eric Green it is even higher.
