Evil Dead worked for a couple reasons....the biggest that they were no name actors and had a ridicously tiny budget. They shot some of that with Camcorders I've read.
Snakes on a plane looks to have a decent budget. The cinematography doesn't look corny. And there are big name actors.
If you try to make a bad movie like Evil Dead....and fail...then you end up with Passenger 57 or Anaconda.

Why are you making such a big deal? It is what it is. It's not going to be Schindler's List, and the people making it didn't expect it to be. If you don't want to see it, don't see it. It's not the filmmakers' fault that the marketing has blown up far beyond their expectations.
Look at Blair Witch, absolutely awful movie, but it made millions because of it's marketing. At least SoaP looks like it will be a lot more fun to watch.

They develop some decent suspense, and I kinda liked the ending, but other than that, its strength was easily in the brilliance of its editing. Otherwise, there is very little substance in the whole thing. The leadup to the climax had some scares, but it was too slow to develop. Blair Witch was a short film expanded into an overlong piece.

Sam Jackson,going back to a killer animal movie - worked great the first time with Deep Blue Sea! If I'm as smashed when I see SoaP as I was when I saw DBS, it will go down as a classic without a doubt.
Don't doubt Sam Jackson in a killer animal movie!
By the way - for anyone that hasn't seen Deep Blue Sea, it has THE single greatest scene (in my completely twacked out opinion) in movie history in it - nothing to me ever made me howl like......
(This probably isn't necessary for Deep Blue Sea, but here it goes anyway)
SPOILER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sam Jackson giving a typical yelling Sam Jackson speech (Youn think water's cold, try ice!), rallying the troops only to get up to the climax of the speech when a shark rises out of no where and snaps his body in half - absolutley classic. If you freeze-frame and go frame by frame as the shark dr5ags Jackson back to the water, you can tell that the F/X guys had fun with that shot as a HUGE smile comes over Jackson's face and his arms go out to the side, almost shrugging like saying "oh well, what can you do?"
Classic.
