This guy lookslike a STUD. 21 carries for 219 yards and 1 TD along with 2 catches for 28 yds and 1 TD...through three quarters!

All of you guys saying we need a big play threat at the RB position I hope you saw the 70+ and 40+ scampers. The man is a beast. Last year I pimped Laron Landry, this is my guy I am hoping for come 08 draft.

Assuming there are no trades, here are my guesses as to whether they would take him or not (N/Y)

1. Miami (1-15) (N)
2. St. Louis (3-13) (N)
3. Kansas City (4-12)* (N) [3-way tie for picks 3-5, to be determined by coin flip]
4. Oakland (4-12)* (N)
5. Atlanta (4-12)* (Y but not if McFadden is still there)
6. New York Jets (4-12) (N)
7. San Francisco (5-11) Traded to New England (N)
8. Baltimore (5-11) (N)
9. Cincinatti (7-9) (Y)
10. New Orleans (7-9) (N)
11. Buffalo (7-9) (N)
12. Denver (7-9) (N)
13. Carolina (7-9) (N)
14. Chicago (7-9) (Y)
15. Detroit (7-9) (Y)
16. Arizona (8-8) (YYYYYYYYYY)
17. Minnesota (8-8)
18. Houston (8-8)
19. Philadelphia (8-8)

I watched the game to watch Stewart specifically, I learned nothing. Oregon runs the spread offense so Stewart always had tons of room to run. He never lined up behind the qb and ran it up the middle. The guy definitely has the speed to make it and he can definitely run in space, but i still don't know if he can run in between the tackles. Hopefully he will play in some sort of all star game after the bowls that runs a real offense but i doubt he will. He may be great but it is hard to truly judge him in that spread offense.

I could see Oakland going RB -- seems like adding McFadden to Russel would make sense

Atlanta has could go RB, but they are a prime spot for a QB

Cincy at #9 has defensive issues and Rudi Johnson/Kenny Watson did fine, so I would say no

Unfortunately, Denver, Chicago and Detroit all seem like teams that could jump on the guy.

I know Denver has a history of taking bargain basement backs, but Stewart might be too good to pass up, even given their defensive issues. Chicago needs a running game since trading Thomas Jones. Kevin Jones for the Lions isnt healthy (again) and with Martz on his way out, there will be a new emphasis on the running game.

As much as I have been pimping the guy -- I do share that same concern.

However, it seems that about 2/3 of college football runs the spread, so downgrading guys on that would be hard.

I wanted to see him play to see how he ran through tackles -- he had so much space today, didnt get to see much of that.

He is a junior so if he does come out he will not be playing in any all star games as they all are for seniors. He is listed as 5'11" 230 lbs. He is a power runner. Have no idea of his speed.

Excerpt from the write up of the game -- and an interesting quote from Stewart:

Just like that, Oregon’s 18-14 halftime lead had swelled to 46-14, and fans of the Ducks began wondering if Stewart, a junior, will return next fall.

“One more year!” the Oregon fans chanted as Stewart hoisted the Sun Bowl trophy.

“I haven’t made any decision,” Stewart said later.

Allow me to translate the bolded part: I am entering the draft

I agree with all of that except for Detroit. That team has gotten schlacked in some games this season. Besides a QB they need defense badly. If I am a Caison fan I am much more worried about Detroit taking him than Stewart....

I want a pass rusher, someone to kill the Qb and make him throw dumb passes into the playmaking hands of 'Antron' Rolle :)

Those are some good numbers.

5'11" 230# ? That is a pretty good sized back. I was impressed with his performance, and wouldn't mind seeing him in Arizona.

Good teams get players in place before it becomes a need. We need to get someone who can step in if Edge were to go down and a guy we can groom for 2009.
It doesn't appear that J.J. is that guy although I do think he could be utilized a bit more.
Stewart looks a bit like Maurice Jones Drew. Thick thighs and lower body who doesn't look fast but is.

That's the beauty of free agency. If we go out and fill our major concerns thru free agency , then the draft becomes what it should be. A tool to improve your teams future.

I'll stand by my belief that the Cards could do a number of things to get this team into a position so the draft becomes just that. It will all start by making some cuts of some household names. Shipp, Berry and Holt to name just 3.

1. There is no excuse for us not to have Dansby and Pace back even if it means using the tag.
2. We restructure Fitz which will free up cap space while making him the highest paid wr in the league.
3. We restructure Gandy so as not to break up what we have started with our o-line.
4. There are a number of offensive linemen who will be free agents this year. It doesn't have to be Faneca although his knowledge of Grimms system would be a huge step forward to REALLY solidifying our o-line.
5. Get a cb like Florence or Asomugha. Either one will upgrade the position and add depth. Samuels will be overpriced and after watching him against the Giants he certainly didn't look too anxious to tackle Brandon Jacobs a couple of times.
6. Resign the RFA's that we want back.
7. Take a long hard look at the FA running backs that may be available. Do we go after a guy like Fargas or Jones if the price is right? It's something to consider.

Assuming Rolle will be given a shot a FS , these 7 things would put us in great shape going into the draft and allow us to truly select the BPA.

All the above is not impossible nor would it ruin our cap situation.

I didn't know Alex Brown was a FA next year.

He would be a nice addition to the team....but where do you play him ? DE or OLB?

Still he would be a nice upgrade. He is going to leave Chicago since he is behind Mark Anderson and the Prince.

This guy is not built for this system.

Why are we even thinking about it?

Fast, strong, perfect RB body, big play ability, can catch, can block. What system would he not work well in, the run n shoot.

It isnt like a LB or DE that may or may not work in any Defense. He is a RB with all the tools. He can fit in any system. Just becuase he works in a spread offense doesnt make him any less talented of a RB, and a talented RB can work in any offense.
