We are trying to sign another starting pitcher.

Both Wolf and Garland have declined our offers.

Ignoring the money, the Diamondbacks wouldn't have had the prospects to trade for Jake Peavy, even assuming that San Diego would have traded him to a division opponent.

They act like a midmarket team in a midmarket and have a midmarket teams payroll, Im not sure why you're upset.

Not every team in baseball has the bottomless wallets that the Yankees and Red Sox do. I'd also say the Diamondbacks are nowhere near a big market team. Granted, they're a far cry from the Marlins, Royals and Pirates, and are a step ahead of teams like the Twins and A's. In terms of comparisons, I'd say they're about on par with the White Sox and Mariners. They have limited money and spend it when they need it.

Also, it's also not anywhere near as simple to make trades as it is on the video games. Why do you think Peavy's still a Padre at this point? San Diego's asking a king's ransom for him, one I'm quite frankly not in favor of seeing the Diamondbacks pay out.

On top of things, you've got Webb and Haren as pending free agents in the next season/two. Sorry, but Jake Peavy's not worth losing Haren and Webb. By trading for Peavy, Arizona essentially wipes out their money for those two, and that's cutting their noses off in spite of their face.

On top of this, Arizona tried to play the "big market ball" approach before. They're still paying on some of those contracts. I don't think I want to see them wind up in that boat again.

Quite honestly, with what the team was working with heading in, I think Arizona has had a fairly nice post-season. Sure, they didn't sign any headline stealers, but there's much more to this sport than having a team full of superstars. One doesn't need to be an ESPN hyped superstar to be a good fit, and Arizona has managed to fill holes with guys who are good fits.

I don't know much about Lopez...how much of a defensive drop off between he and Hudson?

Hudson's an All Star defensively. There are few, if any, in this league who can come close to being on his level.

That said, Lopez is decent defensively, and he's a much better leadoff hitter than Huddy.

I think the "baby backs" with another year of experience will be better hitters and not strikeout as much, especially CY and Upton. Our pitching staff remains solid even though we don't have a steady left handed hurler in the mix.

We will miss O-Dogg's defense and leadership. That is the one thing that scares me.

The one variable that will keep us from winning the NL West will be whether or not Manny re-signs with the Dodgers. If this happens, our chances are very slim.

In my opinion, Lopez strikes out way too much to be an effective leadoff hitter, just as with Chris Young.

Even though Drew and CoJack are not traditional 1-2 hitters, they are both natural, patient, intelligent hitters. I'd like to see them bat 1-2, with Upton batting third.

But then, history has shown that our lineups change every two or three days anyway.

Y'know, we could have 1-8 all capable of hitting 15-20 or more homeruns -- if they don't try to hit homeruns on every pitch. Right now I think Drew, CoJack and Snyder are the only ones who possess that self-discipline.

I dunno BC.. The guy hit .370 from June to September with St. Louis.

****, if he hits .270 with 50 steals, he's the best leadoff hitter this team's ever had.

I think the biggest thing will be his defense. Webby gets so many double plays in part because the middle infield play behind him is so good. A few years back when the defense wasn't as good you could tell it hurt Webbys confidence and he wasn't nearly as aggressive.
