Clearly says that that type of language isn't allowed in NFL contracts. There were quite a few posters on here saying that the team will just throw a clause in there to save them in case he bolts back to baseball. NADA!

Draft day i read it was a "verbal " agreement.Just remember Murray is "all-in" on football (this week anyway).

He's been focusing on 2 sports and playing at a super high level while doing both....imagine when he only has one to focus one.

Fear of him jumping to baseball will get you nowhere

Fearing what may happen without any proof is foolish and a waste of time and energy

It's part of the Murray Denial Derangement Syndrome.

Murray is short, is the hidden Ball child, and was too successful.

I kind of think his signing bonus is tied to fulfilling his 4 year obligation. If he were to bolt to baseball next year the Cards would sue him to get back the pct. of his bonus money.

That is opposed to Head Up Murrays *** club?

just seems like trolling at this point

Murray haters don't have one shred of evidence to hate him other than to hate him

He has a lifetime of evidence that he's been successful...yet you hate.

I gotta call trolling

It makes no logical sense to be hating on a guy who's 100% succeeded at everything he's done.

It's like driving to a restaurant that has 10,000 5 star reviews of the food and you are driving there yelling 'this meal is going to suck!' It's just dumb to say

I call trolling when someone hangs on one teams board while having another team logo as their avatar.Last I heard you are not the posting police.

They can't stipulate that he can't leave for baseball, but they can formulate his contract in a way that would be more penalizing if he doesn't fullfill the entire contract.

Ironic to say, considering everything you say on this board is pretty much trolling.

Keep pretending Kyler has no red flags. We know it’s BS, but keep planting your head in the sand, or plugging your ears and saying “lalalalala” whenever anyone points out the issues.

If Kyler had “100% succeeded at everything,” we would have heard about Kyler being the unanimous #1 overall pick long before Kliff Kingsbury inked his contract with USC.

If Kyler wanted to bail for the MLB he would’ve gone after getting drafted in the 1st round. He’s shown time and time again that he loves football more. Actions speak louder than words, yet people are still paranoid about him leaving for baseball.

It’s extremely hard for anyone to just jump right into baseball after a hiatus. If he leaves for the MLB there’s no guarantee that he even makes an MLB roster. Life in the minors isn’t exactly ideal.

I’m not sure the Murray fan club understands our concerns about Murray leaving for baseball. It’s not like we think he’s going to drop his helmet in the middle of the opening drive against the Lions and fly to Oakland... it’s more like two years in, after getting beaten up behind subpar offensive lines and two concussions, that he realizes the rest of his career is better suited to a sport where he won’t have CTE at the age of 32.

Isn’t that a risk for just about any player drafted? What’s the difference between Murray leaving for baseball and Murray retiring early to prevent further injury?

If Murray leaves for baseball then it obviously didn’t work out and we move on. For now, there’s no reason to worry.

You just want to worry even though you currently have no power to change the situation.

This worry/clause didn't make sense to me.

He's the #1 overall pick. He's going to get a good contact for dollars, typical rookie deal. Not the insane money of old, but he knew the contact situation when he made his decision.

4 years, with team option for the 5th. That option will pay Goff something like $22m - which will only go up in the next 3 years.

So if he's good he will put himself in a position to sign an extension after year 3 or become a FA/franchise tag/extension with more leverage after year 5 coming off a year 5 season that will most likely pay him in the mid $20m range

He's not leaving that to go ride buses while working up to the majors and dealing with years of club control and arbitration

If he stinks I could see him wanting to get the jump on his MLB career..... But if he stinks, why would the Cardinals care? Recoup some bonus and move forward.

So the only great area is if he does well enough to stick, but not well enough to extend our commit to. Basically if he Tannehills or Bottles.

Even then, I don't see him leaving his first contract. It wouldn't make sense as there is good money being made and even OK QBs can get good second deals. If that deal doesn't develop then maybe pursue baseball.

In short, I don't see a reason/situation that if he can play at all that he doesn't play out his first contract - which is all the Cardinals have rights to and the only contract a no-baseball provision could apply to.

The only reason he wouldn't play it out is if he isn't good enough, in which case why force him to stay?

Players might get injured, sure. That’s a part of the game. Most players don’t have a built-in escape plan though. I’d be saying the same think if Kyler had made $50 million on bitcoin. The fact is, when the going gets rough, Kyler can get going. There’s not many players with that luxury, and those that can aren’t usually the #1 pick.

It doesn’t even have to “not work out” for Kyler to bolt. He can be a solid player, but decide he’s tired of getting beaten up, and walk away to a career with a much higher max earning potential.

+1. Injuries are one concern but he could also become a bust before Year 4. I hope KKs offense can thrive behind the OL we field this year.

Just get ready, statistically, the odds are you’ll be the one eating crow here.
The odds are that a QB drafted #1 overall is more likely to be good than bust. If Murray was primarily a runner than I would maybe agree on that front of comparing him to other "running QBs", but he is absolutely a pass first QB or at least he was at OU. Of the last 20 taken #1, 15 of them were pro-bowl QBs.
