So now, what happens to Dampier?

New York? They want him, they have a mid-level. GS doesn't want to take back bad salaries, and that's all NY has offered them.

Atlanta? Word is that they made their pitch with a "take it now or its off the table" (JC style) deal. Damps didn't so its not there.

GS? They could keep him, but they don't seem to want to.

I know the Suns have not had an interest in Dampier, but they might consider it at bargain basement prices. I was trying to think about how to do it. Dampier is NOT worth Marion to the Suns, and not to me either. He's not worth the salary Marion makes and he's not a comparable player.

I'd throw this out there. Eisley, Casey, Zarko, and the Chicago pick for Dampier in a S&T. Two decent young players with good contracts, one bad contract (but not too long anymore) and a quality pick.

I don't think GS would buy it, but its a possibility.

The Suns have tried to be very diplomatic when repeatedly asked about Dampier but if you read between the lines their answer to your question seems to be,

No f***ing way!

I'd like to lose Eisley, but that's a lot to give away. I would have to say no.

I think there are good reasons Dampier is still on the market. The only player I would give up for Dampier (maybe) is Eisley but that is probably giving up too much. :) Hopefully whatever GS is buying, the Suns are not selling for Dampier.

I'd say give Dampier a one year minimum deal, let him have another career season since his contract will be up again, and wish him better luck in free agency next summer.

Didn't Stephen Jackson do that?

Of course, I am not being serious. If Dampier wanted to do that, he could go to NY or get a better one-year contract elsewhere.

I think Damp will end up signing a one year deal with someone (ie the Hawks) and try again next year like Jackson did.

That's pretty risky for him to do at 30. I can't see him having such a good season again.

I think someone will eventually step in with a sign and trade when his price drops enough. What about a sign and trade with Eisley and CJ?

you must be joking. It would take much more than CJ to unload Howard Eisley without even considering the sign and trade.

Dampier is a nice Center for $6-8 million per season. More importantly is not someone you want under a long-term contract. I would be extremely worried about signing him for more than four seasons.

There are only 2 ways Dampier comes to Phoenix.

That's if Eisley, Zarko, Milos and Chicagos pick are acceptable for Golden State. If not I guess Atlanta could easily take that package as well for nothing in return and we should just sign Dampier.

Swap Jacobsen for Skita seems like a hot rumor as well. Eisley, Zarko, Casey are not going to get minutes anyway unless someone is hurt.

I'm not convinced Skita is going to produce more than some rookie FA from the summer leagues. The very fact that the Denver papers think that the Suns will take him just because he played in Italy (rather than what he has produced) seems rather suggestive to me. :p

It looks to me like Dampier will wind up in Atlanta now.

I expect he'll have an early opt-out on his contract, too...

Today will probably determine if Dampier ends up in NY. I still think there is a possiblility that Dampier could go to Portland. Van Exel and Dampier were rumored to go Portland last season for Rasheed. Van Exel and Damp had a very good relationship in GS.

---Team officals who have been around Dampier for several years have noticed that he seems more upbeat with Van Exel in the fold. Van Exel has gone out of his way to make Dampier feel like an integral part of the offense. ---From the Cincinnati post

Also in the article this quote from Dampier. "Nick looks to get everybody on the team involved and pretty much try to take care of himself last. A point guard who has an open mind like that, is willing to get his teammates involved in the game, definitely goes a long way for the team"

He is not going to have the same response to Stephon Marbury.

My guess is that Nash really wanted Van Exel and Dampier but GS did not want Sheed. If Portland can get Dampier at a decent price they may consider moving Theo and Miles if they get Marion and Jacobsen in return.

I think it is more likely for him to end up in Portland than Phoenix.

Is Portland seriously considered moving Ratliff? If so, that baffles me. I thought that was just a Suns fan pipe dream.

They aren't. coloradosun keeps trying to create a scenerio where they might, but no one in Portland every brings it up. It's like the fantasy that the Hornets would trade Magloire.
