So this just dawned on me.. This will basically be a Steelers home game.

For the most part we all come from somwhere, the Card fans, the players so I don't see this as a Steelers home game. However, the more Steeler fans there are at the game, the more witnesses to see the amazing plays between Warner and Fritzgerald. And they will tell the world what they witnessed that day.

It was only through incredible luck that the majority of the crowd in Charlotte was rooting for the Cardinals, or we would have lost that game for sure.

Can't wait until the game!

The last two SB's the Steelers played in, the crowd estimates were about 70% Steelers (vs. Cowboys) and 80% Steelers (vs. Seahawks).

There are LOADS of tickets being sold online, and I can guarantee you that Steelers fans are emptying their accounts to buy those tickets even as I type this.

Awesome, just great.

This way they can drain their accounts and witness the loss firsthand and then think about what they've done on the long trip home, sun burned, despondent and broke.

This is perfect.

i agree that we'll be greatly outnumbered. but i cannot help but wonder . . . in a blue collar town . . . during a terrible economy . . . with just having blown all that cash to do a similar trip just three years ago . . . will steelers fans really be coming in droves again? as i said, i think us cards fans will be outnumbered, but perhaps those factors mitigate that a bit. oh, and also never underestimate the power of the full family shapiros on hand. cheese and ouchie represent!

Really this is a HUGE advantage when you think about it. Some Steelers fans are probably a bit torn on this game. Of course they're going to cheer on their Steelers, but it's got to be hard for them to cheer too much against the Cardinals.

Yeah, we often refer to you guys as Steelers West...the JV team j/k. You guys do have a lot of former Steelers on your team. And I am sure our DC and OC will have to change a few things to throw off Whiz and Russ.

First off, congrats to the Cards, they are well deserved to be in the SB and will definitely give the Steelers a run for their money and vice versa.

Secondly, and the main reason I'm posting, is because I get real tired of hearing from other teams fans that people who live in Pittsburgh basically live in squalor and that the economy here is horrible. This is the biggest misconception of the city and is heavily outdated. This is just a worn out stereotype from the 70's and 80's. The economy here in Pittsburgh is one of the best in the country TBH. This is not a city of strictly blue collared steel workers anymore. The two largest employers in the city are University of Pitt Medical Center and the University of Pitt itself. The city now centers its job market around high technology, such as robotics, health care, nuclear engineering, biomedical technology and finance. It is home to 8 Fortune 500 companies and 7 Fortune 1000 companies. It is far from a "struggling" city.

The housing market is relatively stable despite a national mortgage crisis and instead of a declining job market, Pittsburgh has actually seen a rise in the job market in 2008. There are of course people in the city who have lost work or are affected by a rise in gas prices and the general cost of living, but that is a true statistic for any city in the nation.

You also forget that Steeler fans are not just located in Pittsburgh, there are Steeler fans everywhere, and many of them save up for events such as these. Some of them will not even have to travel far to make a trip to the SB and are just happy to get to the event win or lose. Would you consider it a complete waste of time or money to make the trip to Tampa to see the Cards play even if they lost? I somehow doubt it.

This is the SuperBowl.

Look I expect the Steeler fans to outnumber the Cards fans by a wide margin.

I expect that the Steelers fans will cheer loudly, but the fact remains it's just not the same as a home game for the Steelers.

The SuperBowl crowds are never even close to as loud as a number of stadiums during the regular season and on top of that the cheering is usually during or after the play to a large degree.

It's not the same and I've never seen it be a factor and I don't expect it will be now.

The Cardinals crowd IMO was a bit loud when WE had the ball, I noticed this several times in the Championship game.

I think it won't be any worse than that if at all and I don't care who goes to this game or how many Steelers fans go as compared to Cards fans, it's just not a home game and if the noise dosen't get that loud it's a non factor.

Superbowl crowds will never be loud because half of the tickets go to "corporate" people. They are people who are there because their company has a lot of money or are an affiliated sponsor of the league. These people are there to schmooze and make business deals. The game itself is secondary to them.

I mean c'mon....the Cards as one of the two participants in the game, who have earned their way in after a long, grueling, fight, do not even get one fifth of the ticket allotment. Same for the Steelers. Ridiculous.

you must forgive Ouchie. The closest he's ever gotten to Pittsburg was watching Gung Ho at Town & Country back in 1986.

I'll also add that Pittsburghers know the Tampa area well. The Pirates have spring training just across the bridge in Bradenton. Plenty of Steeler bars there, too. Another factor is that there are a lot of eastern snowbirds (seasonal residents) already in the Gulf Coast of Florida--no need to travel.

Yes, I'm a mega Steeler fan, but I actually like the Cardinals as a team (just get Q's head straight). Heck, any SB loss is painful, but I really wouldn't be able to stand losing to the Cowboys or Snyder's Redskins and their fans.

Folks here know very little about the following of this team. I attended the game here in Glendale last year and i also attended games in Denver and San Diego. Its amazing the number of fans that show up from the hosting city or nearby states. Whats even more amazing is when you have fans that live in another country make the trip, for example in Glendale i tailgated next to a group of Steeler fans that made the trip from London to attend the game. Its gotta be downright embarassing when like in San Diego, the Steeler fans have cordoned off an entire section of parking lot with barricades and banners and flags denoting Pittsburgh West and 1/3 to 1/4 of the attendees of the game are Steeler fans. And this is on the west coast.

20 percent of the (Steeler) fans that show up for Tampa might currently reside in the city of Pittsburgh while the the balance who might have some ties to the city currently reside elsewhere.

Exactly I don't see why people keep love festing on the Steelers fans base.

It's a ton bigger than ours, and if we were playing the game at Heinz field "awesome ketchup btw" then yeah I'm extremely nervous but ....... we're not so I'm not.

I'm more worried about our players getting awed by the whole event than anything.

You're about right, while there will probably be a good number of Steelers fans there (more will show up to tailgate just to be there and some probably won't even have tickets to the game) it's not going to be anything like it was in SB 40 in Detroit. That was close enough to Pittsburgh that most people from Pitt could just drive there and make a day trip or an overnight trip for it.

The only upper hand that the Steelers have for this game is that a good number of players have been to the SB before and won't be as nervous this time around (especially Ben, he was a bundle of nerves in Detroit). Warner has this advantage too, and I expect them to both play very well. It's going to be a great game no matter who wins or loses! Honestly, I'm very glad we're playing AZ because if they do win, it's going to be a much needed boost to the team, the franchise and the fans. It wouldn't be as heartbreaking to me for the Steelers to lose to them as opposed to the Eagles...Steelers fans would never hear the end of that!

Because they have one of the most loyal fan bases in the NFL bar none. Unlike the Cards, people go to those games even when the Steelers are losing. Take the most die hard Cards fans that show up every game and triple it for the Steelers crowd. Plus Steelers Fans travel well.

You can't knock Steelers fans. You just hope the Cards fans become as loyal someday. This Super Bowl could be the first step. People in this state only back a winner (not including the loyal die hard crowd). People will be more willing to travel and follow the Cards if they are perennial winners.

Look for somewhere in the neighborhood of 50% Steeler fans, 20% Cards fans and the balance being made up of lawyers, politicians and their kids.

Already bracing for a loss? You better hope your team doesn't have this kind of attitude.

No doubt, Pittsburgh has a large and loyal fanbase --and certainly some of them travel.

But a far larger factor is that Pennsylvania is losing population at a rapid clip. All those Pennsylvanians are moving somewhere ---

Pennsylvania lost two congressional seats in the last census, and will lose at least one more in the next. Arizona (along with Florida and Texas) picked up two. In the next census, Pennsylvania will lose at least one more -- Az will pick up at least one more.

thats it for the civics lesson.

Well that's the difference between a fan and a player I guess lol. I'd be very remiss in saying that I KNOW the Steelers are going to win, so yes, I guess you could say I am bracing for a loss, it's just a somewhat realistic approach to the game though. I know they CAN win, but also know that "any given Sunday" still applies to the SB and anything can happen.

Also understand that I became a fan of the Steelers in the 80's (when I was younger and watching games with my Dad), so I guess that may play a factor in my thinking going into every game.

I'm confident the Steelers can win, but know that the Cardinals are in the SB for a reason, and that is because they are good.

Huh. Much different than the Falcons, Panthers & Eagles fans.

I think that most of the people in attendance will be jet-setters who are pretty well heeled and are there to be seen, not necessarily to support a team. There may be more Steelers fans in the stadium than Cards fans, but most will be socializing and not paying all that much attention to the game. If the Cards could get hot though and score early, they may divert some of the Jet setters into becoming underdog rooters however. So far a crowd noise, I don't see it being an advantage for either team, as most will be afraid to spill their martinis on their Gucci's.

Ah, the salad days of Mark Malone. And then Bubby Brister.

For growing up to that and still becoming a hardcore Steeler fan, I salute you.

During the couse of my unscientific reaearch at the bars here in NY, most football fans I know are [mildy] cheering for the Cardinals unless they are Steelers fans specifically. Mostly because the Steelers already have 5 trophies with the 5th only a couple of years old--but also because everyone seems to like watching the Cardinals play. I definitely think there will be more Steelers fans at the game, but one more amazing catch by Fitzgerald brings a lot of the neautral fans over to the Cards, IMO.
