McGrady informed Team USA coach Larry Brown on Wednesday that he was withdrawing from the Summer Olympics in Athens because of terrorism concerns.

"I woke up and read that in the papers and I was shocked," he said with a laugh. "Next thing I know, my girl is calling me and saying, 'I didn't know we were getting married.' . . . I just had concerns about the whole thing and decided to stay home and be safe."

He said he's "90 percent sure what he's going to do," adding that there are two teams -- the Los Angeles Lakers and the San Antonio Spurs -- that he would like to play for if he decides to leave Orlando. He stressed

So he wants to pull a Payton or Malone?

"I absolutely don't want to be in a situation like I was this season because that was terrible," said McGrady, referring to the Magic enduring a 19-game losing streak en route to compiling the NBA's worst record.

Maybe he should shoulder some blame instead of putting it on his teammates all the time.

The dilemma for the franchise is, 'Do you want to try and win now or wait two or three years for a guy to develop?' " McGrady said from his home in suburban Orlando. "I'm just saying, I'm not trying to wait that long to win. I was in that situation last year and I just can't see going another couple of years losing and waiting on players to develop. I just don't think I can do that

Scratch him off my list.

This is like breaking up with a woman when you know she is about to break up with you. :)

From these quotes it sounds like McGrady has already scratched the Phoenix Suns from his list. There's about zero chance he's going to get to play for the Lakers unless he signs for the mid-level exception, or they can work some sort of three-way deal (how about Tracy McGrady to LA, Kobe Bryant sign and trade to Phoenix, Shawn Marion & more to Orlando?).

The San Antonio Spurs have got to be just kicking themselves for signing Rose to that big deal. If there was some way to move him a would have enough money to sign McGrady outright this summer. That's assuming that they do not re-sign Ginobilli or Robert Horry.

TMAC comes across as a reall ASS O

I don't want him in Phoenix with that attitude.

If he wants to sell out and get a free ride to a championship, that really shows what kind of player and heart he has.

Um...except that T-Mac isn't a free agent this summer.

Doh!!!

That's right. They could sign him outright next summer then. :)

That's it, Joe.

20 lashes for forgetting.

We can't have a repeat performance like that.

That's an interesting idea. You get Kobe, keep JJ, and still have 9 million or so for additional free agents (Dice, Milos, and another).

The problem with this idea is that in the end I don't think there's any chance Kobe Bryant is leaving LA. Phil Jackson will leave, and Kobe Bryant will be told that the Lakers are his.
