In a van...down by the river.
After listening to Sarver on Gambo & Ash this afternoon it sounds like he ruled out promoting from within the organization which rules out Del Negro or any current assistants. He also said that they're in no rush to hire which leads me to believe that they're going to pursue assistants on teams that are still playing ala Thibodeau(spelling?),Michael Curry etc...Sarver mentioned no names so i'm speculating.
However he was clear about not promoting from within and when asked about what type of experience he was looking for he vaguely stated that they would hire whomever was better suited to win a championship here in the next two years.
I missed the first half of the interview so i'm not sure about all that was said.

How about Kareem Abdul Jabbar? Isn't it about time he got a shot at a head coaching job?

That blog link from a couple months ago makes a pretty good case that Kareem should get a shot at an NBA head coaching job. Yeah, he doesn't have any NBA head coaching experience and isn't the most personable guy, but he has been an NBA assistant with the Lakers the past few years and did coach a USBL team to a championship. As one of the greatest NBA players of all time, Kareem would instantly have the respect of the Suns players and could definitely help Amare continue to develop his offensive and defensive skills.

Maybe he could teach Amare the sky hook.

Pop was an assistant coach with Nelly in their Run TMC era. IMHO, coaches need some time as assistant coaches at the NBA level to get ready.

That being said, I'd absolutely love to see EJ hired as an assistant coach. I say that especially if the Suns do take a defense oriented coach like Silas

As much as I prefer a coach with some experience, isn't Paul Silas 342 years old? Kerr wants to keep some uptempo elements, I don't know if Silas can even turn his head fast enough...

I've mentioned Ty Corbin in previous threads.. Just don't know how he would get the respect of the vets and coach offense...

Westphal, Silas and all of the former/current Suns ain't going to happen. Westphal is even worse than D'Ant in terms of easy practice and being a players coach.

My top 3 are, in no order:
Mark Jackson
Ty Corbin
Tom Thibadeau(sp)

Nate McMillien could be a dark horse

They'll take someone who can have an effect immediately,so the list is very short. They need someone who can be a plddayers coach but coach for the moment as well and let the players need to do in that moment.
