I remember when Josh Dobbs looked good at QB with the Vikings for several games. I think there may be a reason Darnold was on a few teams prior. I'm just not sure he'll be better than Kyler. Right now KM is probably in the middle of the pack in NFL qb's 15 or 16. You can win with a qb like that.
Yes, nothing wrong with winning with a great defense. That has NEVER been the case in AZ. We have always built teams going for passing greatness. A few seasons, we almost got there, then couldn't sustain it. Why not try something different?

I don't even care who the QB is if we win. Gannon is a defense guy, why not go for it on defense?

Man, I don’t even know where to start. I will say next season will 100% be a failed season if they don’t make the playoffs. With that said, realistically I don’t know how they get there outside of acing the draft, spending all the money in FA (which so far Monti doesn’t seem like he’s willing to do that) and just flat out getting lucky.

If I’m Monti I suppose I’m committed to building the trenches and and upgrading the WR position.

How about this for plan?

Build an awesome WR room.
That would be a waste of resources once a big game arises and kyler turtles as he’s done in LITERALLY EVERY INSTANCE other than high school.

What you’re espousing is buying a high end sportscar and turning it over to a kid who can’t drive stick.

Maybe a QB like that, but not him. Not in an important game. 0-10 says so pretty definitively.

Darnold has looked like a very different level of QB than Dobbs in MN.

No. I'm not throwing MHJ under the bus again with Kyler in 2025. Charmin Marvin has his own stuff to work on, but he's not getting much better with Chokedown Charlie at QB either.
I know you don't like this answer, but there aren't many better QB options this upcoming season. I don't say that because I am interested in watching more Kyler, but just having looked at what is out there in terms of FA and the draft.

Darnold is the only QB option that would interest me, but I don't believe he will become a free agent. Minnesota can get the most value for Darnold by franchising him and trading him to the highest bidder. Some QB needy team will undoubtedly hand over a first or second round draft choice for him. He's been that good this year.

While I think this is what Minnesota would like to do, I don't see any NFL teams willing to give up a high draft pick and pay Darnold 35+ mil per year. Too much risk IMO.

First 6 seasons absolute trash.

7th season plays with a stacked team Cards Fans: We should go get him. :lmao:

Same fans: K1 needs to be gotten rid of after 6 seasons.

No one should be taking these posts seriously.

This isn't helpful. It doesn't improve the discourse on the board. Please reference specific posts or keep these strawman arguments to yourself. I don't think anyone is Darnold No Matter What.

But why though? Is it the system, the coaches, the talent around him, or all of the above? I don't think Darnold would look like he does playing for the Cards or many other teams.
Bingo!

He has KOC, Justin Jefferson, Attison, Jones, stud oline, and Hockenson.

You don't think Shanahan would have kept him if he thought he was great?

Both Baker and Darnold are playing with much better teams.

It's a combination of things.

1 - KOC is a great offensive minded HC. His system puts his QBs in positions to be successful.

2 - The Vikings have better offensive personnel than any of his previous teams IMO. Not a high bar to surpass but still true.

What I feel like I have seen is an increased level of confidence from Darnold this season, and a lot of toughness in key moments. His numbers are improved in the ways they should. What is most impressive to me is that his air yards per attempt are up, but so is his comp%. His int% is low despite taking the most sacks of any season in his career.

The Vikings probably have the best offensive personnel in the league. I can't think of a team that has better collectively. I might have said the Texans are in the ballpark till Dell got hurt.

Kyler is fine. Need to get these trenches built up. Buy talent this offseason and draft the backups
I don't know after watching some of the balls thrown in the Panthers game.

There is zero pop or zip on his throws and the ball is coming out super wobbly.

K1 used to be considered to throw the prettiest ball in the league.
Now it just looks ugly.

Ah! I see the trade options now. Still don't understand why the impact would be different from a release, but I trust OTC.

As K9 suggested, I'm guessing there are future bonuses that transfer with a trade but are guaranteed if cut.

People just saw him avoid pressure, step up in the pocket, throw a laser while off balance to split 2 defenders and place the ball in the perfect spot for a TD in a big games and then says it's the roster.

Seriously. Not a rant. What would you do moving forward?
Honestly, every road I go down there’s a roadblock.
Can we move on from Kyler?
If yes, then who? A free agent? Who?
Draft? Is there a rookie qb that we could plug in and ride with like Bo Nix? But if we draft one in the first round there goes our pass rusher we need or does that come through free agency?
Do we stick with Kyler because Petzing is the problem? So was Kliff, right.
Is Petzing the problem?

Things seem to be on the upswing coming into this season. MHJ was going to solidify the wr room.
Kyler was 100% healthy with a full year of learning this offense.
Our running game was awesome.

Now I feel we are stuck in quicksand and years from reaching the playoffs.

I know it’s early with two games left but I want to see some dynamic moves. But what?
Dynamic moves?? The dynamic moves were made when they hired MOJG and COMMITTED to the PROCESS of sustainable success. The plan was never to be a legit playoff team in year 2 of a COMPLETE REBUILD. The plan is to stay the course, continue to draft with a scouting team that emphasizes certain positions over other positions, and develop, develop, develop. This WAS the plan, and this will remain the plan. The team has made some very nice advances, but isn’t talented enough to get to the next level just yet. We are in the middle of a major & complete rebuild. We’re not in the beginning, and we’re certainly not in the latter stages yet. Now, you have to stay the course. You’re driving yourself crazy to think we have somehow failed this year. No matter how we got there 7-8 at this stage was always the goal. MOJG have a much better idea now as to what talent they may or may not currently have. We don’t have as many draft picks this year, so I fully expect them to be more active with their free agency money. Not stupid active, but active just the same. And I expect the players they’ve drafted the last 2 years, to make continued progress, especially the guys moving from year 1 to year 2.

Going to push back on this a bit. You are demonstrating shockingly low expectations from our front office.

Texans hired Demeco Ryans in 2023, same year as we hired Gannon. Texans went 10-7 in year 1 with a rookie QB, and are poised to have back to back 10 win seasons.

Broncos hired Sean Payton in 2023. Year 2 they are 9-6, borderline playoff team with a rookie QB.

Shane Steichan was hired in 2023. Rookie QB. He is currently a .500 HC.

Dan Quinn hired in 2024. Year 1 and with a rookie QB...

Raheem Morris hired in 2024. Year 1...8-7.

Michael McDonald hired in 2024. Year 1...8-7 with Geno Smith.

Jim Harbaugh hired in 2024. Year 1...9-6.

I hate to write this but Gannon's win % in on par with Brian Daboll and Antonio Pierce. Our timelines follows that of the Panthers, Bears, Jets, and Giants. The bottom of the barrel NFL franchises right now. To excuse what this regime (and I put it mostly on Monti) has produced in their 1st two years is laughable. It has to get better and they are in this spot because that have chosen to not make dynamic moves, and not enough moves in general. Now the seat should get a little hot because they need to win games instead of trying to play 4-D chess while under the thumb if one of the worst owners in the NFL.
