Someone help me out on this Dolphin thing

It's hard to compete in the AFC East right now. I think that in some ways they're doing what the Lions did a couple of years ago, and still are when the Packers seem to be the most dominant team in the division: collecting young assets and getting rid of high-priced aging veterans in hopes that they'll be able to compete as the Patriots decline.

It's going to be a battle for second (and occasional Wild Card spot) in the AFC East for at least a couple more years until Brady's skills really decline. The best strategy is to get a young asset like Tannehill and hopefully develop him to be ready to take over when Brady is done.

It's kind of like what the Panthers and Bucs have been doing in the NFC South while the Saints get old/suffer from the disease of more. That's all you can do when there's a dominant team in your division; get younger and be ready to take over. It's what Houston has been doing the last three years, and now they're going to be ready to dominate the AFC South for the next five years as long as they can keep Wade Phillips out of another head coaching job and Matt Schaub doesn't hold them back.

I like Tannehill, I think he's athletic and works hard, has a good arm, and is smart.

But the Dolphins are a trainwreck and I don't think he's going to win there.

He did nothing in his limited tenure in college to make one say, "Hey, that Tannehill guy is smart". That is the problem, and what makes him any different than McGee who the Cowboys took from A&M?...nothing, which I can detect. Not saying he does not have a shot, but it is a LONG shot and the dude is more 3rd round talent than a top 10 pick. He is the very definition to me of a team reaching in the draft.

The Dolphins have been a disaster of an organization since the day Wayne Huizenga stole the franchise from Joe Robbie family and publicly announced that he didn't really care about winning, but just wanted to make money. He parlayed the success of Robbie's Dolphins into a ton of money and the idiot fan base still brags about the " glory days". After sucking every penny he could out of the team, Huizenga hired Parcells to add credibility so he could sell the team off to Stephen Ross, who is a complete moron.

The Dolphins were literally forced into drafting Tannehill by default. The 3rd best QB in a two deep draft. The incredibly shrinking season ticket base needed a PR draft, so they finally drafted a 1st round QB , which they hadn't done since 1983. It is just a recipe for disaster. They will be bottom dwellers for a long time with a rookie coach, an incompetent GM and a clueless owner, not to mention a terrible roster.

Very well put in my opinion. Their history of suck goes back further than just a couple years. Their season ticket fanbase is only @ 30,000 last I checked, the rest of those tickets go to fans of the Patriots, Jets, etc when they go to play there. Only team in the NFL in more trouble in my opinion is Jacksonville, which is practically empty every time they show them on TV. If they combined both of them into one team they still couldn't fill a stadium.

Tannehill is the definition of a crap shoot. If I was the dolphins I woul have tried to move back and get one of the other second tier guys.

That said, I'm not ready to write the kid off. I think he could have a pro career a lot like Plummer's.

he might be as consistent as Plummer in playing well and then do a bone head mistake to diminish what he did well. I will say this, his arm strength is a lot more than what Plummer had

Well we sure can emphasize with them. Sad to see an NFL team in that condition. Well except for St.Louis, Seattle and San Francisco. (and for those of you who just can't let go: Dallas )

Oh I do empathize. I see a game on TV @ Jacksonville and it's like tumbleweeds are blowing through. We Cards are a true lesson in the NFL that you can turn it around if you have the backing and get a new stadium and coach.

I just would like to know where you get the understanding that he is smart. You might be right, but I watched him play and I would like to know where you arrived at that attribute.

Academic all Big 12 would be one indicator. He also won another academic award. The guy is on his way to be a doctor, thats what his academic path was.

That has absolutely nothing to do with his football smarts and instincts. I want to know what he did on the football field which would prove he is football smart. After watching Fleming's highlight reel, one would think we just drafted Tannehill's favorite WR.

If you are a human and sick, you make sure your doctor has a degree from Rice or the University of Texas

Tannehill was a much, much better passer than McGee was and ran a pro-style offense to boot. McGee would often run for as many yards as he passed for in college and did a lot of option type stuff you never see in the pros (unless Tebow is your QB).

Even a teasip should see the obvious difference between the two.
