If anyone didnt see it yet Somers did a solid 2 hour live chat today with some very interesting tidbits. I suggest taking a look at it.

http://www.azcentral.com/sports/cardinals/articles/2009/04/23/20090423cardinals-coveritlive.html

Some of the more interesting info and what he feels the Cards are thinking.

1. Thinks the odds of them taking a center isn’t good. If they do probably in a later round.
2. Doesn’t see a tackle taken early in this draft if at all.
3. Thinks Ali Highsmith is still a year away from getting involved in a regular rotation at ILB.
4. Doesn’t think WR is a need even if Boldin is traded.
5. Not sure if they have looked at return men, but agrees it is a need.
6. If he stays healthy he thinks Doucet can really contribute this year.
7. Cards are not high on RB-McCoy.
8. A lot of teams are high on English and may not be there @ 31.
9. Thinks not a lot of teams are rushing out for Boldin because of Dallas rising the bar on compensation with the Williams trade, age, health, and Rosenhaus.
10. Mentioned Deuce and Levi as the ones that need to improve the most on the OL.
11. Doesn’t think much is going on with a Wilson Contract right now.
12. Thinks Maybin and Sintim are possibilities.
13. Thinks the top 3 RB’s are ranked as such according to Cards – Moreno, Brown, Wells
14. Doesn’t see a NT taken that high.
15. Coaches like Urban a lot.
16. In the draft room, Wiz has the most influential voice, but Graves still makes the call.
17. Coaches think Keith can play LT for them in a year or two. Coaches are really excited about him.
18. About giving Gandy an extension if he had to guess he thinks a new LT will be here in 2010, either Levi or Keith, meaning no extension for Gandy.
19. After RB and DE/OLB the positions he thinks will be targets in rounds 3-7 is – OG, TE, another OLB, and you can never have enough CB’s.
20. Thinks Matty boy will be very successful when given a chance to play, and thinks he will get that chance this year because odds are Kurt will miss at least one.
21. Breakout player like Breaston last year = Hightower.
22. Okeafer not going anywhere and doesn’t think a deal with Boldin can get done in 09.
23. Likes Campbell a lot. Thinks Smith was very inconsistent last year.
24. Thinks the Cards really improved their special teams with the new LS, Lewis and Wright.
25. Davis will be much more 3-4 traditional looks, but we will still see hybrid looks.
26. Dykes = powerful
27. He started at 70-30 Boldin is traded and it has dropped down to 50-50 now.
28. Grimms best asset is that he has a knack of simplifying the game for the players.
29. English and Brown would be a dream draft for them if Boldin is traded.
30. Doesn’t think Drew is the villain people make him out to be, he is just more willing to look like the bad guy then other agents.
31. Thinks the Cards have no problem dealing Boldin in their conference, just not their division.
32. Sort of a knock on Dockett, a coach from another team told him that if Dockett played hard every down he would be a pro bowler.
33. Cowboys have not shown any interest in Boldin.
34. Doesn’t think Derrick Brooks fits on are team.
35. If he had to give a guess to who we get in round 1 and 2 he thinks it will be Donald Brown then an OLB in round 2.

So it looks like no OT and no Center.

Maybe we'll see 2 or 3 OLB's drafted? Maybe the only Offensive position addressed will be RB and then we will see a run on defensive players. I guess that wouldn't surprise me considering what area of the team needs the most work.

Now that's what I'm talkin' about - plenty of factual meat for us to dig into, courtesy of Schmo.

Most revealing info - (a) Brown rated over Wells, (b) no center (I wonder if that includes G-C's like Mack, Wood or Unger) and (c) Brown followed by an OLB.

Thanks.

By all rights, Wilson's contract should be the first one to get re-done! Before Q... Before Dansby... :bang:

Brown is starting to sound like a good option to me. I am still on the Larry English bandwagon.

Here's Somers take:
Kent Somers: I can't see them taking a tackle high, or maybe even at all in this draft. A center/guard is a possibility.

7. Cards are not high on RB-McCoy.
Thank God.

Brown over Wells..... Interesting.

I will now consider Brown my #2 RB behind Moreno. In Wiz I trust.

English or Brown. That's the pick. :)

Thanks Joe, great info. Looks like it could be a bumpy year if we striggle some and Anquan stays. But it's worth the shot at the rings.

Surprise
5. Not sure if they have looked at return men, but agrees it is a need.

I heard an over night radio show and one of the guests said that some NFL personnel guys have told him that this is the deepest group of returners ever. They said there could be 15 solid returners in this years draft. Sounds like a good year to get one. :)

26. Dykes = powerful

I find this very interesting. I know they like him a lot. Maybe this is why we finally have started to see some activity by Mr. Branch. If he doesn't get it going we have a guy waiting in the wings that may be pushing for playing time.
