I would say that for someone who isn't a professional, fulltime actor and given the TV aspect, Underwood did a more than admiral job... There were a few spots where it seemed awkward, but overal, I was actually suprised at how comfortable she seemed and how smooth she moved, spoke, sang and acted...

I felt the two most important characters (Maria and the Captain) were the weakest. Sure both of them can sing but inbetween the songs left a lot to be desired. Underwood at times felt as though she was reading off a menu. Plus the guy who played the Captain didn't really feel like he connected with the Maria Character until boom it all of a sudden it happened and thew were married.

Now I thought the Reverand Mother was fantastic and I thought the girl playing Liesl was solid. Underwood seemed to do better when paired with them. I also liked the lady playing the Barroness although she seemed to steal the show from Underwood when they were on screen together.

My wife and my mom who are HUGE SoM fans really were excited for this and were very disappointed. I think they were comparing it to the movie too much and needed to take it more for what it was.

It wasn't a remake of the movie, it was a live performance of a Rogers and Hammerstein musical.

I liked it and give Kudos to everyone involved for taking such a live TV risk.

When I was growing up there was a place in So California called Melodyland. It was a theater in the round and they used to bring in celebrities for Broadway-type productions. This was very much the same.

(Worst casting e.v.e.r. was Pat Boone as a gang member in West Side Story.)

Correct, that is what I was trying to point out to them. However they had only seen the movie so that is all that they had to compare it too.

I was surprised at Stephen Moyer's singing voice. It was a pleasant surprise that he could sing unlike Russel Crowe in Les Mis. The only problem I had is that I can't help but think of Moyer as Bill Compton rather than Von Trapp.

Fear not, this is network television we're talking about here, the same people who bring to you 10 different celebrity judged singing contest shows a year. If this formula is paying off for NBC its only a matter of time before ABC puts a live action Lion King on, CBS does the stage version of A Few Good Men, and Fox puts on Cabaret.

Chelsea Handler was hammering on this last night apparently the acting of Carrie got horrible reviews.

not sure what people expect in a musical though, in general you'll get a good actor who can't sing or a good singer who can't act, I would certainly prefer the latter?

That is especially true if you need a "name" to go on the marquee and carry the marketing. However, if NBC could just be confident that the event would still be marketable, there are plenty of Broadway types that can do both.

Yes good point I meant a name person as you said.

The bit they showed she was really overacting but everything I've seen said the thing got very good reviews.

I guess Time Magazine made fun of her though.

Carrie Underwood got great reviews for her singing. But acting due to her lack of experience however, that is a different story.

But the ORIGINAL is the ORIGINAL!
