Spartanburg’s new downtown baseball stadium – Fifth Third Park – will host its inaugural game tonight as the USC Upstate Spartans and Wofford Terriers meet for a cross-town rivalry contest.
"We're thrilled to host Wofford and USC Upstate for the first baseball event at Fifth Third Park," said Tyson Jeffers, general manager of the Hub City Spartanburgers, in a news release.
The stadium will be operating at limited capacity, and all available tickets have been sold, according to Ian Unsworth, Broadcast and Media Relations Manager for the Hub City Spartanburgers.
"This game will be a historic moment as we introduce Fifth Third Park to the community while offering fans an exciting opportunity to watch two of the region's premier collegiate programs," Jeffers said. "We can't wait to make this a night to remember for the schools, their athletes, and all the fans who join us."
The Spartanburgers' first home game is two weeks away – April 15.

The City of Spartanburg often bills itself as a college town. Officials are excited to have the community’s two Division 1 college sports programs meet for a game downtown.
“It’s really cool to have the first game at the new stadium be between two of our colleges,” said City of Spartanburg Communications Manager Christopher George.
For tonight’s game, city and team officials encourage fans to use parking garages and surface lots along Broad and Magnolia streets as well as Daniel Morgan Avenue.
The newly constructed parking garage beside Fifth Third Park is not yet available, but it is expected to be in time for the Spartanburgers’ home opener. To view a map showing parking locations, click here.

George said the USC Upstate-Wofford game will be a good trial run for city staff and for area businesses. “We’ll be paying close attention to traffic patterns and how people get around,” he said.
“We’re all hands on deck preparing for the Spartanburgers’ season, and this will help to inform our approach to things.”
The game tonight is expected to be high-level. In 2024, Wofford won the Southern Conference championship, and USC Upstate was runner-up in the Big South Conference.
Coaches for both schools noted the historic significance of the event.
In a prepared statement, Wofford coach JJ Edwards said, “April 1st will be a great day for the city, community, and schools as Wofford and USC Upstate renew this rivalry in 2025. We are excited to be part of this special day and many more for years to come.”
USC Upstate coach Kane Sweeney added, “To play the first game at this new stadium is something the guys in this program will remember forever. We look forward to continuing our relationship into the future and hopefully playing plenty more games in the coming years.”
