Michigan State hockey will enter the NCAA Tournament as the No. 1 team in the country.

The Spartans didn't receive the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament, but they did finish the regular season as the No. 1 team in the USCHO.com poll. The updated poll was released on Monday, with the Spartans landing as the top team ahead of Boston College -- who received the No. 1 overall seed from the NCAA Tournament selection committee.

A total of five teams from the Big Ten were included in this week's rankings: Minnesota (No. 5), Ohio State (No. 9), Penn State (No. 12) and Michigan (No. 17).

Michigan State will open NCAA Tournament play on Thursday evening. The Spartans will face Cornell -- who is ranked No. 16 in this week's poll -- at approximately 5:30 p.m. ET from Toledo, Ohio. Should Michigan State beat Cornell, they'll face the winner of Boston University and Ohio State in the second round on Saturday.
