We are all over the waiver wire and have made a trade this offseason - and more will follow. I was wondering.....what stopped us in the past?.. was it.

a) Upper management (bidwill, graves, Fergy - I guess) - not wanting to pick up these type of players...or
b) head coach (basically going back to Tobin and Mcginnis) did not want to pursue anyone (as bad as we have been - I would have a hard time believing they did not think we could upgrade some positions). or...
c) Scouting Department (or assistant coaches ) did not recommend players that we should pick up..

It is not like picking guys up via the waiver wire and trade is a new concept in the NFL.....I was just curious whether upper management finally gave the coach the ability to actually improve the team (which I assume to be the case).. I could also see another angle...with someone like Mcginnis - I could see him saying..look - I like this backup I have (pick a position)..why would I go out and pick up a different backup who I do not know much about and I would have to cut my guy..and I am not sure if the new guy will actually be any better..so why bother...

Just curious if Mcginnis/Tobin tried to do this stuff in the past and were shot down...or they never tried and relied upon others - who did very little..I assume Green is mostly behind these type of moves -because if it was someone else - why did we not do it in the past? head office and scouting department is mostly a carryover from years past..

further note..while alot of the waiver wire guys will not make the final roster....some will.. The one I like the most is Ifeanyi Ohalete...this was a no brainer for the Cardinals - in my view - San Diego should have taken him. Given dexter's injury and the way Harris has played...this was an easy pick up.

The beauty of trades and the waiver wire is that you do not have to get into bidding wars or be forced to deal with only the players who will sign with the Cardinals....the players have no choice they either show up or sit out...which reminds me...since it was rumored that Hambrik left the Raiders (the raiders said he took a personal day off) - I wondered if he was on the flight to Denver for the thursday game...

Talent evaluation....or GOOD talent evaluation makes or breaks a pro sports team....most teams for that matter.

The St. Louis basball Cards are a case in point......GOOD talent evaluation has improved their pitching staff to give them the best record in baseball....I didn't say they had the best pitching staff in baseball....but they improved that aspect and coupled it with a "Murderer's Row" of hitters from the #2 spot to the #7 spot.

We've always sucked at talent eval..

Case in point.....drafting kickers high.

Someone was pi$$ed the other day for remembering that we drafted Grammatica in round 4.....hell one year we drafted a kicker in the FIRST round (Little).

I'd say it has to be because of the regime change with Mike Bidwill, Rod Graves and Denny at the helm. I'm sure some of the non activity was due to greedy Bidwillness and a little of Mac's we are all one big family mentality that caused the lack of mentality.

Know what else is nice?

That if a guy like Hambrick comes in here with a s*it attitude, he will be gone before the next cut down.
Hambrick needs to get "on board" very quickly as many ex cardinals have found out. He has a wonderful opportunity to resurect his career right here.
Many of the waiver acquisitions will be cut., but the pro-active attitude the Cards have shown is exhilerating!!!

It's also a transition year. Green did not hesitate to cut Blake, Bell, Kendall, Tanner. He wants to put guys in that match his system. I would expect less activity next year.

To answer a question

Hambrick and Zellner were both at the kick off luncheon

so were Cason and Stueber

the team left straight from the lunch to board the bus to go the airport

misguided loyalty to players on the roster?

It is a combo of a lot of things not just one. Just to add what you have already posted.

1) New Stadium coming and new revenue streams from the ASU comprimise. The B's dont seem to want or need to penny pinch as much any more.

2) Mikey B. brings a new attitude and outlook on things.

3) Didnt we do a complete reshuffle of our scouting guys.

4) Mikey B. is letting the coaches, Graves and ect, do there jobs. He is letting the football people be football people.

I am just starting to think that for all the carizma and class that Mac had... he had very little to offer in the way of evaluating talent and or coaching it. He was a motivator

When I was listening to Graves on the radio the other day. He made it sound like Mac was happy with what he had and didn't want to make changes to his team this late in the preseason. So I would say it was more the coaches call.

I read a quote once from Mac, about how they went about aquiring UDFAs. He basicly said that the bio's of the UDFAs went into a SHOEBOX! If the team had a need at a certain position, they would just pull out a name, and give them a call!

Aint that some crap!?!
