Look at my quote in the draft thread before this happend. Things couldn't have gone any worse for the Suns. This is the type of young big man the Suns could use and yet he will be going to the Suns biggest rivals and end up hurting the team for years.

Guys--get a grip.

Spurs do this stuff all the time--draft foreign players and then don't bring them over.

Ever heard of Luis Scola.

This guy's contract is apparently twice as bad.

Spurs do this in first round to save money.

Not really. By the time he actually makes an impact, Steve Nash will be retired along with our championship hopes, and Tim Duncan will be on his last leg.

TAU may be willing to deal Splitter be cause he will be going into the last year of his contract this season and can lose him to the Spurs next year and get no compensation.

Tiago seemed pretty confident before the draft he would be playing in the NBA next year.

Obviously your opinion of Splitter differs from mine. I think he will be making an impact in the next 2-3 years.

But that's the point. You still have players for the future to use is one form or another (trade or play).

That's what allows the Spurs to stay under the cap while still have players in the wings waiting to play when someone leaves.

Both Fernandez and Splitter would have cost the Sunz ZILCH, NADA, ZIP to retain the rights.

but it gives the spurs an opportunity in the future to bring a player that's considered talented and receives international experience in to supplement a good team. do i think it's enormous on their part? no. but it's a smart move. was fabricio awesome? no. but he was a useful part for you guys. we don't maintain a chest of useful parts to select from in the future as you guys do. and frankly, i'm a bit jealous.

I think that 2-3 years he might make it to the NBA. Obviously has to wait a year or two to actually make an impact. And even then with his lack of offensive game he isn't much more than a roleplayer.

If this move for extra cash allows us to keep Kurt Thomas, then I'm totally 100% behind it.

If he's not in the league this upcoming year he will be next year. He is already a seasoned player and one of the top player in one of the top leagues.

i agree. My fear is that I was saying the same thing about TT last year when we traded picks away.

I really fear we're gonna low-ball Grant Hill and he's gonna go to SA for more money AND a better shot at a title.

oh well, it's just baasketball.

KT>Splitter for winning a championship in Nash's window.

...now if we trade KT for peanuts, then I'll be pissed.

Could have had KT this year and kept Splitter overseas a season while KT's contract expires.

But we need to pay KT this year, and the 3 million will help out immediately.

Splitter is a role player. Would he be nice to have? Of course. But (apparently) we need the money now.

Suns have been the most or 2nd most profitable team each of the last 3 years. Maybe they should use some of those profits to improve the team instead of standing pat.

I think the reason I am so annoyed is because I believed Sarver completely when he said that the Suns profitability made it possible to be more flexible with the Luxury Tax.

More flexible meaning duplicate last year.

We're already in the luxury tax bracket. Robert Sarver isn't Paul Allen.
