Rick Ballou ripped the Cards for signing King, because he is not the solution at QB (shows how little experts knw about this team)

Bob Glauber corrects him and states that King was signed as the back-up qb. The starter is McCown. Ballou then rips McCown, but again Glauber shuts him up. McCown hasn't shown enough, but feels his upside is big enough to give Green the benefit of doubt, since Green has had success with very average QBs. The King signing proves that QB is not the choice at #3.

Everyone seems to forget that we are 1 football game from everyone screaming for a new QB.

McCown is not the answer.

I'm not exactly screaming...it's more like I'm whining about taking Roethlisberger. I really think that guy's gonna be great.

Shaun King is a great QB Pickup. I have watched him in Tampa for years. Early on in his career he threw Rainbows for passes but preseason he was great because Brad Johnson and Jon Gruden have worked with him. And from what I hear the starting QB job isn't set and king has a chance to take it during training camp and i expect he will.

Drafting a qb.....

is a crap shoot and will not turn this franchise around. Dennis Green is absolutely great at getting his QB's to perform to their highest level.
What is it about McCown that makes some people think he has absolutely no shot at being "The Answer"? EVERY QB GREEN GETS HIS HANDS ON ENDS UP HAVING THE BEST YEARS OF THEIR CAREERS!
McCown was as strapped as anybody in one of the most inept, undercoached and chaotic offensive schemes in the league last year. Most of our players, especially on offense, can't be fairly judged because of that.
If anybody else was coaching this team , then taking a QB would be a no brainer. Surround McCown with as much talent as we can this year. If he fails, then we have King to fall back on. If HE fails then we go out and get a decent QB next year. Perhaps a guy like Brad Johnson.
This year teams had a shot at Brunell, Garcia, Fiedler, Couch, ang to some extent Bulger or Warner.
I don't have a clue what qbs will become free agents next year, but you can bet there will be a few to choose fron, IF ( and I repeat) IF, Dennis Green is wrong about McCown.

I'm not one who doesn't think McCown can be a decent QB--I think he can. But I also think Roethlisberger can be a GREAT quarterback. We've got a bunch of guys who are decent. We need more like Boldin who are/will be great.

I hope that McCown starts, King backs up and Manning or Roethisberger sits on the bench for the year.

I won't be disappointed if we draft many people, including Manning or Roethlisberger. We will be a better team next year though if we draft someone other than a QB.

Yes drafting a QB is a crap shoot but at somepoint you are going to have to take the shot as you will not get a "great" QB in free agency particularly when we are tight with the money. Any real good FA QB is not going to be interested in the Cards until we are a contender. I think any team is built around a solid QB who will be with the team for a long time. If you reallly believe McCown is that guy then pass on Manning but I do not think McCown will ultimately be in the same class as Manning. Manning should be ready by the time the new stadium opens. If we do not draft Manning and McCown does not pan out what do we do. There may not be another Manning type for several years and we may not be drafting high enough to get him.

THAT is my biggest fear. The fear that we will improve just enough in the future to take us out of contention for a QB like that, but missing that "elite" QB is what will keep us from getting over the hump.

True, drafting a QB may not help us a bunch THIS year, but the long-term future may be severly handicapped by not taking a shot. And you know, it's better to take a big time QB at a time when you may not necessarily NEED one, as opposed to taking one when you HAVE to, and end up ruining him by starting him too eaarly.

Whoever starts at QB for us, the most important thing is that he remember to...
