what can be done to change that? experience? certain players? they are not going anywhere with their young nucleas, and neither are we. unfortunately, this means that unless something changes drastically, they will keep smacking us around.

Well the Spurs have won 2 titles recently, they have Duncan, they have a ton of smart, veteran roleplayers like Barry, Horry, Mohammed, Bowen. We (besides Nash) are an average age of 24 with no bench to speak of and a still raw big man.

In the offseason we need to add veteran depth and just take this experience into next year. Maybe a 4-0 reaming will spark us to take a long look at ourselves and our defense, but the fact is the Spurs are just playing amazingly.

They are deeper, more experienced, better coached, and they simply want to win more than the Suns do.

I dont think they want it more than the suns. What is ashame is that the suns have 5 amazing offensive players. Who do you cut/replace in the starting lineup to make way for defense?

Suns should not replace anyone. They should keep the same core. They will learn how to overcome their shortcomings. They were just too tight in this series and were forcing issues.

One player is not the problem. The problem is the mentality that you don't have to play defense. Current roster is just fine, but they have no desire to play defense.

I put this one on our coaching staff. Spurs are not a better team but we make them better. Why do you double Duncan? Let him score on hunter, Jake, Bo, anyone...put Marion or JJ on Ginobili and keep Parker contained (Nash stay in front of him, let him take the shot, contest it and have our big guys hekp out when he breaks out)...Amare, please put a body on people and grab some rebounds...we would have won. We have a better team. We showed it in the 4th quarter that we can stay with these guys. Our coaching staff is to blame.

Excellent, excellent post except that I would not put Shawn Marion on Ginobilli. Q has done better than him in that department all series even though he hasn't exactly shut Ginobilli down. I just heard Coach Mike say that he probably should have played Hunter more in the first half. I agree.

Amare's lack of defense and rebounding in the first half were really hurt. He allowed Tim Duncan to get fantastic position almost every time down the court. Amare had a fantastic fourth-quarter, but it was too little too late. I just don't think this is a team the Suns can go small against.

Our defensive rotation has been consistently bad against the Spurs penetration. Hunter and Amare are both very raw, and obviously can't handle Parker and Ginobili when it counts.

I almost would just as soon get swept at this point - so Amare furiously decides he MUST learn defense this summer, and so the coaches decide they must figure out some defense that won't interfere with our speed - learn to steal like the Spurs, for crying out loud! - and the FO decides to assemble a bench Coach D won't refuse to play.

As a matter of fact, DA tried to let others handle the ball a bit more in this game. We had nice drives from Q on several occation. The problem is that we didn't practise those often enough to make them consistent threat.

But Pop really did great job to disrupt Suns offense. They must have studies a lot of movies to defend us. Parker overplaying the side the pick is going to be set slows down our forward motion forcing Nash into their bigmen without Amare having enough time to roll into a good position. And two game in a roll, Amare won the opening tip only to see it falling into Manu's hands with quick 2pt in the first 2 seconds. That's all coaching details.

Let's also not forget that the first two games of this series were very close and hardfought. I know that injuries are part of the game and the best teams have deep benches, but if JJ had been healthy they are down 2-1 at worst right now. I do think San Antonio is a better team. I think they match up extremely well with the Phoenix Suns. I don't think they are THAT much better.

I agree. I think we make Spurs LOOK too good.

I didn't remember the last time Duncan hit 15/15 foul shots. I thought he missed quite a few against Nuggets/Sonics. Duncan's FT is like 80%+ against us. I don't know why the big difference but 15 FT is a killer.

I am not complaining since I chose not to watch Game 3 (too much pressure for my heart). Amare usually takes 10+ per game and last night, he only took 6 FT and Duncan took 15.

Either Spurs did not foul Amare at all (which I doubt) or it's really what you call "Spurs Home Treatment". I mean Amare gets 10+ FT against the Griz/Mavs easily and I would like to think Spurs is a more physical team than Griz/Mavs.

And Duncan took 15FT?? If our defense is really that bad, why would we foul Duncan in the first place? We don't usually foul anyway.

I guess I am just very bothered by the number of FT Spurs took and Amare only took 6.

It hurts more when we shot horribly.

I really think Spurs is the only team that gives us huge problems. If it's Pistons/Heat, I think we'll give them a good battle.

We are making this Spurs team look way too good now. Spurs had one very bad game against Nuggets and 1 very bad game against Sonics. Spurs is really not THAT good IMO. Not "sweeping the #1 team" kind of GOOD. I refuse to think that.

I think Suns lost themselves. Those young players probably think "they can't beat Spurs" no matter what. F that ****. We are the #1 team and we can beat the #4 team Mavs with only 6-men.

We need to get rid of that mental problem now. We have one game left and I really hope Suns can avoid getting swept. Give ALL they've got in Game 4 and bring Spurs back to PHX.
