Do you think this guy can help them out? Carreer 20.8, 6.2 career shooter and still scored 16.6 points last yr. Why didn't we look at him? I would have much rather had him than McCarty...

Why woud we have wanted him? Because of his stellar defense and great leadership abilities?

Why would we want McCarty over him? Because of his stellar defense or leadership abilities? Or maybe his stellar 5 points a game career average, and two rebounds!

Maybe because he was a free agent and could choose where he got to play. Hmm the 2 recent championship Spurs team with Tim Duncan, or the never a championship Suns team? As much as I love my Suns, that would be an easy decision to make if I played in the NBA...

first of all mccartey has long been regarded as a leader and a good lockerroom presence, not to mention a hustle guy. whereas big dog has long been considered an uncoachable cancer.

but beyond that, we prolly could have signed him some time ago. it's not like the suns and spurs were vying for him since he's been cut and he decided to go with the spurs as tank's post would have you believe.

i think it was more a sitch of the suns seeing mccartey as a valuable good-guy who could play a bit if needed and add some playoff experience verses screwing with team chemistry by bringing in a guy who might disrupt not only the lockerroom camaraderie, but also potentially the flow of the offense.

Is big dog considered to be any bigger of a locker room cancer as Jim Jackson was? Who would you rather have, Jim Jackson or McCarty? I just think McCarty is a waste...he averages five points a game and doesn't rebound much or play good defense. I think he's pretty much useless.... Where as big dog could have really helped us off the bench like Jim Jackson has. He would have been worth taking a chance. Also I doubt the big dog was waiting for the Spurs to sign him late in the season..if we had wanted him we could have gotten him... and not for picks like McCarty...

jjax has not been considered a cancer everywhere he's been. they liked him in houston, they just needed more at the point and were trying to get guys more in line with that need. his frackus w/ j-kidd years ago is overblown too.

and you can't compare big dog to jjax - they are NOT the same player. jjax is a much more well-rounded ballplayer whereas big dog is just a scorer and a scorer who needs the ball in his hands. i think big dog would have been a terrible addition to this squad, and, quite frankly, i think he'll end up being a big mistake in san antonio also.

mccarty has played his role here perfectly. our starters are going to log most of the minutes. mccarty was brought here to give spot minutes and tee of the three while being a longer body on defense. he's done that. enough with the mccarty bashing. you people expect too much.

You know, I've thought it over very carefully, and I just can't get excited about this issue.

one more thing do you really want to sign a shooter to your team just before the playoffs who has just had a major operation on his shooting arm just a little while ago and hasnt played any basketball for about a year?

Ok we'll see how he does...still think he would shoot better all compared to McCarty and I doubt his defense is any worse, also he wouldn't have cost us a draft pick.. I think he's already played a game for the Spurs..probably had a better shooting % and more points than McCarty has had the whole time he's played with us.. let me check...

He brings nothing to this team, IMO. I think we picked up Walter be cause he is everything that Glenn Robinson isn't. I didn't see anyone on this board before the trade deadline saying "man we could really use another shooter" :D

People are too enamored with big names. The man never developed any part of his game that he did not have coming into the NBA. Pop already stated that they are signing him to address a weak spot of their's. We picked up FA's to address our weakspots. And I think Walter will hustle hard in the playoffs.

Ok in his first game Glen Robinson played 13 min went 3-4 from the floor 75% and scored 7 points..not bad for his first game...

now for McCarty..hasn't played for the last few games because of personal reasons... but before that

phi 14 min 0-3 0 pts last game he played
played well in Houston
houston game 7-11. 6-10 from three 1 rb 6pf 20 points.. ok he played really well in that game..probably a career game for him :) hardly any rebounds though...

I just have a feeling Glen Robinson will mean more to the Spurs than McCarty means to us... I don't think the guy can play defense and he isn't a good rebounder, Glen Robinson looks like a pretty good rebounder...

If I want Hustle I think I would rather play Bo..or give Hunter more minutes...

No need to overrate the guy. Does it help the Spurs? Somewhat. Will it improve the Spurs chances to beat us in the playoffs (or any game, for that matter)? I don't think so.

Mcarty is more athletic than Bo. Throwing Bo into a Sun's game other than garbage time is like throwing an 80 year old man into a raging current.:)

They wanted GRob to come of the bench and provide a spark in an area they are lacking. The Suns did the same with Walter. I doubt either is expecting much from these signings as far as changing a game.
But elindholm hit the nail on the head, I think this whole thing is pretty much a non-issue.

I think Bo has singlehandedly changed games in the past... He can really be great on defence and a energy changer. You would rather have McCarty on defence than Bo? I would take Bo's 2 points a game and his defense over McCarty's five...

Bo is definately a better defender than Walter. But like I said, the Sun's style of play is a bit fast for him. Apparently you have to be able to be an athlete who can score to be anything other than a garbage time player with DA's system.

Don't get me wrong, Bo is better than Walter as a basketball player. But he would be a better fit on a slower team. Just like Hunter gets minutes on this team and would ride the pine on a slower paced team.

The point is that other teams actually guard Walter.

Glenn Robinson is considered a black hole when it comes to the ball. The only way it leaves his hands is toward the basket.

Walter is not the offensive threat that Robinson was, but other than that he is a better all round player.

In any case, I cannot imagine Robinson playing the Suns pace. The Spurs have a slow down game, so his conditioning wouldn't be as big a deal as it would be with the Suns.
