I thought they showed a lot of heart and guts in the Lakers series. For that matter, they showed guts against the Suns -- that whole series must have been pretty frightening and more than a little embarrassing for them.
The "passion" angle has to do with how much they jump up and down and high-five each other. I agree that they are disappointing to watch in that regard. But should that be a criticism? People have always said similar things about Pete Sampras, but that's just who he is.
Top-flight athletes need get into whatever frame of mind permits them to play their best. For Tim Duncan and the rest of the Spurs, that frame of mind is a calm, relaxed focus. It sure isn't the WWE, but I just enjoy watching people perform well, regardless of how euphoric they look while doing it.
