Two Big East schools will be in the same region for the 2025 NCAA Tournament as the brackets were revealed on Sunday night.
Rick Pitino's St. John's squad earned the No. 2 seed in the West region after winning their first Big East Tournament title since 2000 and their first regular season title since 1985. The Red Storm went 30-4 and will be making their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2019.
This time, they'll have experience on their side with it being the sixth team Pitino has taken to the NCAA Tournament, winning two national titles (Louisville in 2013 [later vacated] and Kentucky in 1996).
They will face No. 15 seed Omaha (22-12), winners of the Summit League, in the first round in Providence, RI on Thursday, March 20. If the Johnnies advance, they will face the winner of No. 7 Kansas (21-12) vs. No. 10 Arkansas (20-13).
Meanwhile, two-time defending champion UConn (23-10) was named the No. 8 seed in the West region and will face No. 9 Oklahoma (20-13) in Raleigh, NC on Friday, March 21.
The road to a third straight title will be a challenge for head coach Dan Hurley's team, as they'll have to likely face No. 1 seed Florida (30-4) in the second round. The Gators dominated Alabama, 104-82, in the SEC Tournament semifinals and then beat Tennessee in the title game, 86-77.
Other top ranked seeds in the West region include No. 3 Texas Tech, No. 4 Maryland, No. 5 Memphis, and No. 6 Missouri.
The longtime Big East rivals could wind up meeting in the Elite Eight in West Regional final at the Chase Center in San Francisco on Saturday, March 29.
The 2025 Final Four takes place Saturday, April 5 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, with the National Championship game on Monday, April 7.
