Insurance in case we can't get a QB in the draft?

one way or the other a young guy will be signed...it might mean guys like skelton or pike won't be considered...could be a guy who can be put in wildcat formation every once in awhile.

Resign - good

Re-sign - not so good, but speaks to the likelihood that we have no intention of selecting anything more than a developmental QB at the end of the draft.

I am guessing he will be less than last year and probably will get little if any signing bonus. He'll likely be competing with a rookie for the #3.

St. Pierre will be signed, because of what he brings to the table in his ability to perform similar to many QB's we will face this year. He has a big arm, and has been around long enough for Whiz to rely on him for giving us a good look at the style of play we will face come game day.

He does have to pass a physical 1st & I don't think he had any surgery on his bad back. I'm hoping he doesn't pass. BSP is a spare & if Leinart & Anderson get injured we're screwed anyway.

It's a smart move. He's not going to cost much, and if we don't come out of the draft with a kid QB to groom, we have a 3rd QB. If we do draft a kid, he'll have someone to compete against.

Brian St. Pierre expected to return to Cardinals

The Cardinals likely would have been interested in Marc Bulger earlier this offseason, but now now they have their veteran backup in Derek Anderson.

With that role filled, Brian St. Pierre seems ready to return to the team as the No. 3 quarterback. Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic writes that St. Pierre will take a physical with the team this weekend and expects to re-sign next week.

St. Pierre's future was uncertain because of a back injury, but he's able to play. The former Steeler has spent seven seasons in the NFL, throwing 5 career passes.

I think that any quarterback that isn't Sam Bradford is a "Developmental quarterback" in this class.

In the 2009 draft, of the 12 quarterbacks selected, 3 were taken in the first round, and 5 were taken in the 6th or 7th round. A number of highly rated QB prospects were passed on in favor of guys like Tom Brandstander and Keith Null.

I think that signing St. Pierre actually might make it more likely that we draft a guy in the 6th or 7th round because it makes the #3 job less attractive for undrafted free agent quarterbacks like Kafka.

Dear lord, the guy has been collecting NFL pay checks for 7 years and has only thrown 5 passes! Oh the humanity.

Gulp. BSP makes the ML talk go to rest? IMO he is terrible. I find no comfort with this signing. He is what one would call a practice player. I'd like the third QB to present some hope for the future. I sure hope the Cardinals are not looking past QB in the draft.

At training camp last year, I thought Tyler Palko was better and if it was fair should have won #3.

But BSP was on the team the whole year and knows the offense so it kind of makes sense that way.

For some reason, Whiz likes him.
