Here is a map of you out of towners:

Note that the Stadium is just to the east of 101.

It's far. It might be 20 miles "as the crow flies", but look at the map. From the East Valley, you have to take the Interstate 10, change freeways at the 101 (two lanes, I believe, and then drive all the way up to where the "101" label is.

Glendale isn't West Philadelphia, or anything like that, but it's definately NOT Downtown Tempe, or even Downtown Phoenix. It's kind of like Indio (if you've ever make the drive from PHX to SD).

:lmao:

Good thing it didn't go in Sun City. Those Seniors can be pretty mean. The last time I was up there I got wacked in the back of my head with a walker.

Sorry old boy.

They post was in jest due to the ignorant nature of the post I was responding to.

I thought my suggestion of a Lincoln and Tatum location would have a "red herring" for a learned type such as your self.

Sorry, didn't mean to get you in a dither.

btw, My friends company also is NOT renewing its suite with the Coyotes. The Cardinals are in deep doo-doo. No one I talk too likes the idea of risking a trip to South Glendale.

The Coyotes are completely different. Driving in rush hour traffic, facing the sun (ever notice how many more accident happen in west-bound rush hour traffic?) during the week is a lot different then driving on an empty freeway on Sunday morning.

Risking a trip to south Glendale...
Coyotes? Vigalante ranchers? Cattle rustlers?
Right now it's an agricultural area. They're not going to build slums around two new stadiums.
Eh, maybe they will. Maybe RW Parker is chairing Glendale's urban planning committee.

20 - 25 miles, Big Deal. I used to drive 60 miles one way to go to 49er and SF Giants games when I lived in Northern California.

Plus the games are on sunday afternoons. Traffic shouldn't be that bad.

No, I am saying that, in the end, it was the only choice the TSA had.
I gotcha...but there sure were a lot of other sites that were being heavily pursued before Glendale. I seem to remember the Cardinals and TSA diligently seeking out every other site before only throwing up their hands and saying, "okay...our backs are against the wall, Glendale is our only choice." I mean it took a couple of years of the Cards fighting to get a site anywhere but Glendale. That's a tough pill to swallow. The B's put on a great game face including a smile at the Glendale press conference though. Gotta give 'em that!

As far as Glendale being a ghetto, I would say "not entirely". It's got some really nice areas! I lived there for a number of years in the early 90's. But as the crime was on the big-time rise, and it became apparent that I was only one on my block without a "really nice tan", ...then it was time to move. Just a matter of me and my family wanting to feel safer I suppose. I don't think you can fault anyone for that.

Not entirely correct. The TSA still had the Mesa site but before they could build there it had to go through a public vote that would delay the project another year. That's when Glendale showed up and made there presentation to pair the Yotes arena with the Cardinal stadium.

Even after the TSA selected Glendale, Mesa was considering to fight to keep at their site.

SC's a nice, nice campus. Better than ASU's or UA's, by far. It's just that once you step off the grounds, you're in an N.W.A. video. The stadium there looks OK. Retro's in right now, right? :)

Dude, traffic sucks going into and out of Cards games on Sunday, and only 25K show up (if that), and there are THREE freeways in and out. To tell me that it's not going to be bad in Glendale, where there's only one way in and one way out, the 101. No one with a brain drives down Grand Avenue, ever.

I'm sure it's easy to drive 60 miles to games when you're team is going to go to the playoffs every season, but its a little harder to get it up when the team is going to go 5-11. If the team is good, then people will find a way, but during those lean years (and there will be some), no one is going to want to drive 30 miles in traffic to see a bad team.

And watch out for the horse drawn wagons.

Serioulsy, you're wrong agian. The Loop 101 is six lane wide through the entire valley.

Yeah, but I think that the transition from the 10 to the 101 is only two lanes. It's a bottleneck waiting to happen.

Very good point 11. Sunday traffic will no doubt be a lot easier to navigate. Coyotes crowds will have a tougher time on weekday nights.

Your point about the setting sun causing more accidents is one of the reasons many people feel commuting to the West Valley is more "risky". Its a known fact, and people realize this. I think thats one of the main reasons people even bring up the fact that the West Valley can be "unsafe" when commuting there. It's simply attributed to the sun and how it causes more auto accidents. Good call Mr. Architect!

Case in point about tossing crap on the wall.

Visit the ADOT web site and see how your tax dollars are at work funding the major redesign of Grand Ave into the NW valley.

Oops, I forgot the Mashburn site(40th street and 202) which was the backup site if the Glendale site fell through. So there were still other options besides the Glendale site.

Wow! People are complaining about 20-25 miles to drive to a game? When I lived in Northern VA, I used to drive 235 miles EACH WAY to go to Giants Stadium to see the Cards. I know a few people who drive from Richmond, VA to Philadelphia every weekend the Eagles are at home (they are season ticket holders), and that's roughly 240 miles.

20-25 miles is nothing. Traffic or no traffic. I drive 20 miles each way to get to work.

And we'll see how long it takes for THAT to happen. Look how quick the 202 to Chandler Boulevard got finished.

I work for a construction company that does a lot of heavy highway work, and I haven't seen ANYTHING about Grand Avenue on the horizon. Everything that I've seen is going (surprise, surprise) east, not west.

I'm not trying to be negative about the Glendale site, but I'm skeptical about how this works out for the Cards. All I know is that if this same product is out on the field for the next five or six seasons, no one from even Glendale/Litchfield is going to go enjoy the air conditioning.

Gee whiz, I live in north Scottsdale, it takes me 20 minutes to drive to SDS, and 20 minutes to drive to the new venue site, same, same.

There are more millionaires living in Glendale, than there are living in Scottsdale.

See all that vacant land around the new venues? That will be covered with a brand new, state of the art entertainment complex, including hotels. There is nothing but farm land for miles around right now, but with these two new venues, the area will become a highly sought after area in the very near future.

Try to see the big picture. ASU was about to lose it's designation as a BCS bowl because SDS is worn out.

For all you far east valley people, remember when the Superstition freeway ended at Mill avenue? It wasn't that long ago, the new venue will be in the middle of town by the time it's been open a couple years.
