Couldn't agree more. There are several individuals and groups that I feel are improperly labeled as "Anti-Cardinals." Then there's Reilly, who has an absolutely transparent hatred for the Cards. I'm sure he knows about the plaza, and knows that they are going to choose a corporate sponsor for the stadium. He's just trying to set up the Bidwills so that he can roast them again as he usually does about this time of year.

I can't find the entire article he wrote last year, just this excerpt...

"Some people collect medieval torture devices. Others devote themselves to the study of plagues. Me, I just follow the Arizona Cardinals.
Every year I circle the day on my calendar when the Cards open camp and really begin sucking in earnest. They have a Commitment to Wretchedness -- 58 years since they won an NFL title, one playoff win in that time and one winning season in the last 20.

All that couldn't have happened without Bill and Michael Bidwill, a father-son ownership team that could mess up a one-float parade. Since then-Chicago Cardinals owner Charles Bidwill died in 1947, the franchise has been the Pinto of the NFL. Owned until '62 by Charles's widow, Violet, and since by his son, Bill, the Bidwills have somehow made the No. 1 sport in America about as popular in the Arizona desert as down ski parkas."

-Rick Reilly (8/1/2005)

Ah, yes. I remember that article. It was then I decided against renewing my SI subscription. :strawthatbrokethecamelsback:

For one, Rick Reilly is a tool. For two, Pat Tillman wouldn't want that. For three, losing out on tens of millions of naming revenue is stupid.
Then when the team couldn't afford to spend on free agents Reilly would call out the Bidwills as "cheap". Like Trey said, Rick Reilly despises the Bidwills, for some unknown reason.

That goof Reilly needs to get his facts correct too. Stormy and Bill Bidwill owned the Cards from 1962-1972. In 1972 Bill became sole owner.

The Jiffypop is awesome!

Seriously though why don't they get the US Armed forces to cough up the money for naming rights.

Go Army Stadium or whatever the armed forces want. Seems like it would be a great tie in to Tillman and a great recruiting tool. All I hear is how the Army needs so many new recruits. They already spend millions a year buying ads during games.

The Army is already trying to distance itself from the Pat Tillman debacle... Although I love the idea, I don't see the military "buying in"....

I think Cardinals Field at US ARMED FORCES STADIUM would be perfect.
