Stanford athletic director Bob Bowlsby says the plus-one model in college football is "inevitable." A panel of ADs at the Intercollegiate Athletics Forum on Wednesday voiced opposition for a large playoff in football top tier but agreed that a four-team format seemed likely down the road. Washington's Scott Woodward says he supports the plus-one model and believes it will...

The BCS does one thing well. It gives us a clear #1 every year. Where it gets shaky is choosing a #2 over a #3.

So we have 1-4 and 2-3, and then the winners face off? Great! Except #5 will whine about how they should have made it in over #4.

How about an 8 team playoff? Great! Then #9 is wondering why they got left out in the cold.

No, it always does not give us a clear number one.

If every other division in the NCAA can do a 20 or more team playoff, then yes, the top division can as well.

So what does " Plus One" model mean? Why is it called Plus One?

Another game. Basically a four-team playoff.

So the Plus One is an extra game that is not actually an extra game, or maybe it is because it would be for the final 2. The semis being the replaced Bowl games and the Plus One is the Championship game. I just confused myself. :D

Plus 1: 1 plays 4 and 2 plays 3 in the traditional bowl games. The winners play each other in the plus 1 championship game.

So are the semis the Minus Ones?

Why can't we just do a 1-4, 2-3 matchup this week? The the losers could be slotted to go to BCS Bowls (probably Fiesta and Sugar, but that could rotate annually as well). The winners could go on to the BCS championship game.

It's just an extra week of college football in an otherwise dead period, and you'd still get to keep the bowl system intact.
