Whatever they can do to lengthen the life of the stadium is a good idea. Not sure this helps or how much, but I like the effort at least. I don’t really have too much sympathy for the 50 yardliners. A little, but not too much. Our seats were upper deck in the corner at SFS and I survived.

this is a league wide thing -- the only diff between the 32 franchises is the specifics of how they cater to high end ticket buyers (note I didnt use the word "fans" there)

and across the league -- you end up with a far higher % of people going to games that are of the fair weather type --
If I am correct these being called premium seating mean Michael doesn't have to share that money with the rest of the league through revenue sharing.

Thats the key it beats another tax initiative for a new stadium again. the longer it pushes that off the better.

Positives

it will get rid of some visiting fans cuz a lot of scalpers own seats on that sideline

Another revenue stream

Negative it will displace some cards fans that were on that side as well.

I spoke to a former Cardinals exec and he mentioned moves like this come from pressure of other owners when the Cardinals and other teams are amongst the bottom in ticket revenue for the rev share.

I believe that is correct -- or presumably -- some small portion of that revenue goes into the pool and remainder is kept

Here is from over the cap

Regular season, preseason, and postseason gate receipts including ticket revenue from “luxury boxes,” suites, and premium seating among NFL Clubs in all cases net of (A) admission taxes, (B) taxes on tickets regularly paid to governmental authorities by Clubs or Club Affiliates, provided such taxes are deducted for purposes of calculating gate receipts subject to revenue sharing and (C) surcharges paid to stadium or municipal authorities which are deducted for purposes of calculating gate receipts subject to revenue sharing. For purposes of this Subsection, unless otherwise expressly agreed to by the parties, the portion of ticket revenue attributable to luxury boxes, suites and premium seating shall be the face value of the ticket, or any additional amounts which are subject to gate receipt sharing among NFL Clubs. Revenues from premium charges on ticket sales in excess of the face value of the ticket (e.g., rebates from ticketing sources) shall be included in AR. Credit card charges related to ticket sales are not considered a deductible “surcharge” and will not be offset against gate receipts. If a Club charges a service fee on the tickets it sells in excess of the face value of the ticket, on a ticket account basis and not on a per-ticket basis (up to a reasonable maximum amount prescribed by League policy, which as of the effective date of this Agreement is $4 per ticket account), such service fee will not be AR;

This is from The Google ai via sports business journal

Yes, premium seating revenue, specifically the difference between a suite or club seat price and a regular seat price, is part of NFL revenue sharing, but with some exceptions. The NFL has changed its revenue-sharing formula for club seats, which means the full price is now shareable, though teams can still apply to withhold the premium difference to finance stadium upgrades, according to Sports Business Journal. For suites, teams keep 100% of the "premium" revenue.

Here's a more detailed breakdown:

  • Suites:
Teams keep the entire premium revenue from suites, which is the price difference between a suite ticket and a regular ticket without any suite amenities.
  • Club Seats:
The full price of club seats is now shareable, but teams can apply to withhold the premium difference for stadium upgrades, notes Sports Business Journal.
  • General Admission:
The baseline for general admission ticket prices, which are used in the revenue-sharing formula, has been redefined as the average price of all tickets in the stadium, increased by 20%.

Was anyone at the preseason practice last year exclusively for season ticketholders? Michael Bidwill talked about doing more to have Cardinal fans at the games versus visiting team fans...not that much can be done about that. Here is what I think is part of the driver for creating this "Casa Roja" area.

Our seats are in row 1, corner of the upper deck on the visitors side. Looking down at the lower level from our seats, we see that the hard core visiting fans always buy up a bunch of seats right behind the visitors bench, particularly at the middle of the field....right where the Casa Roja area will be.

I wouldn't be surprised if, aside from making money from premium seating, Bidwill wanted to chase away the visiting fans from this area, thus Casa Roja.

Someone mentioned that scalpers have owned the season tickets in this Casa Roja area. I seriously doubt that. I suspect it's been Cardinals season ticketholders who have made a lot by selling their primo seats to visiting fans over the years.

Just curious...anyone in this forum who was a season ticketholder in this area and got relocated due to Casa Roja?

Maybe everyone is looking at this wrong? These seats are predominantly renewed by scalpers and bought by traveling fans.

I’ve been saying for years Bidwill needs to do something to stop 30,000 Lion, Packer, Seahawk, Bears, Viking, Bronco, and you name it fans coming out to make their presence known right behind their teams bench. Good riddance. If they want to pay a scalper for these seats now, so be it. Maybe this is an attempt to curve the opposing fans from sitting there.

I find it hard to believe that scalpers are fronting the cost for season tickets in this area. I suspect Cardinal fans have been profiting from reselling these seats. As I stated in my post above on Saturday, I think it's Bidwill's attempt to rid this area of visiting fans...and make big bucks in the process.
