State of Arizona College????

Ummm......i guess this is a 50/50 shot...

IT WENT GREAT! WE HAD BY MANY OBSERVERS THE SECOND BEST CLASS IN OUR CONFERENCE! (i am worried about our JC guys but hopefully it works out) Lets get some of those "tutors" the bball players get and get these guys in!)

now if you are referring to the school in Tempe.....well....I guess its a matter of glass half full or half empty....

but i'll let AZBaller take it from there....

Same could be said for ASU's best recruit. Holmes and Long are in Tucson and supposedly going to Pima but you never know.

Stoops said he couldnt comment about Holmes on a radio interview, which I took as Holmes not officially being a wildcat...

Rumor is he is having problems with his grades transferring or something like that. Coaches are not allowed to talk about grade issues that is why he couldnt comment on Holmes. He and Long are both in Tucson and according to many in the AD, they expect both to be playing next season.

Neither player is enrolled in school...The question is if they ever will enroll...Wow! What a great class ua has with the 2 5 star studs not enrolled in school :(

Good job getting a couple of quality people stoops...

I didn't realize having academic problems means you were a bad person. Commentary like this just sounds like you're grasping at straws for something bad to say about the kid.

And Holmes was out after the FBR Open on Saturday and he was telling people he'll be enrolled by summer at the latest and is already living in Tucson and working out with the team. Gabe Long is a whole other story but there are only positive signs coming out of Tucson regarding Holmes.

What's the the entire other story regarding Long???

Didn't Holmes say he'd be attending ua right NOW? So why does his story about attending ua later seem to be accurate?

Once again, spin it all you want...All I've heard about on this board is 5 star and 4 star kids, yet most didn't make it into school...

It sounds like you're grasping at straws to make it sound like ua's football team is improving...

A talented recruiting class that never is admitted into school isn't a good recruiting class...

First off, you're putting words in my mouth and and I don't like to be associated with your rambling diatribes so please try to refrain in the future.

EVERYBODY around the Arizona program including Holmes is very confident he'll be in school by this summer. This isn't from Bonney or anybody else affiliated with a fan website but from people close to the program and Holmes himself. I don't see how I could provide a better source/sources and I feel my reputation around here is good enough where I can post such things. Long is whole other story because he has a lot more work to do but the coaching staff felt he was worth the risk and offered him anyways knowing there was a chance he wouldn't end up in school. It's a decision made by nearly every coaching staff at every major college.

And what did I spin? I simply commented that calling out Holmes and Long as not being quality people because they are struggling with grades is pretty bad form and that Holmes was telling people on Saturday that he's very confident he'll be enrolled at Arizona this summer. No spin, only facts. I never said anything about Arizona rising as program. I never said anything about how talented the recruiting class is, nor did I guarantee that every recruit Stoops brought in will make it into school.

Good post Mao...

Another thing, why are you talking about Arizona not getting Long or Holmes into school when you might have the same problem for 3 or 4 of your players in Tempe.

USC is the only other team in the Pac-10 with more 4 stars then UA and only 1 might not qualify at UA (Long)

Arizona also has the only other 5 star recruit in the Pac-10 other then USC.

So there ya go, now you have the facts to spin...

Where have you been? We are improving and last year was the prime example. We have a top 20 class coming in and even if a few of them dont qualify im sure we would still be top 30. It has yet to be seen how the recruits will fare next season, but our class last year had a huge impact.

To say we are grasping at straws to make it sound sike we are improving is pretty lame. We were improving before any of these players signed their LOI.

The problem is we're still a below average football team. Yeah we're not the complete embarassment we were the last year under Mackovic and the points scored vs. points allowed has improved in each of the last two seasons but the wins need to start coming soon if Stoops wants to keep his job. The honeymoon period is definitely over between the boosters and Stoops.

You've gone 3-8 the last 2 seasons Boldin...Where is the improvement? How huge of impact did your class have last year? Your qb was pretty good, but who else made a "huge" impact?

That is fabrication! 1 Player might not make it in...Other than that, Koetter just doesn't take chances on recruits...Maybe stoops could learn something by recruiting people that actually make it into college, and then stay eligible?

Fair enough Mao...I'm sure you do know a lot more about ua and have closer contacts in the ua football program...I guess time will tell?

Um, how about Mike Thomas winning Pac-10 Freshman of the Year?

Everyone seems to know about the problems Jermian Williams is having but I also thought I heard his teammate over at Maryvale was a question mark too. I hope they both get in as everyone should get a chance to go to college where they want to go. But you can't talk like Koetter and Stoops are foolish in offering these guys scholis. Williams and Holmes are apparently worth the risk which is why so many schools were after them even with the qualifying issues hanging over their heads.

Actually Long didn't sign a LOI...Did he?

yes, ua might be recruiting a 5 star player, but he is open to recruiting again since he didn't sign a LOI.

So ua doesn't have the 5 star and 4 star players which you speak of...Just facts, no spin.

Yes, I agree to an extent. Stoops is trying to turn the ua program around as quickly as possible, and taking a lot of risks while doing that...In the end it could hurt that ua program even worse or it could pay off big time...While Koetter does the same thing, he goes after less of those kids...

I don't think Bowser is much of a ? mark.

And I forgot about Thomas...But seriously do 2 good frosh mean a class had a "huge" impact?

Improvement is in game play not just record.

When you look at our stats we are much better in almost every single catagory. Also we lost @ Utah by 3, Purdue by 7 in a close game, Stanford by 4, Oregon by 7 (blew it in the 4th qtr), @ OSU by 2 (4th qtr rally by OSU), lost yo ASU by 3 (in a great rivalry game), and we really played well @ SC untill the 4th quarter.

I dont know how many UA games you saw this season, but we were a much improved team compared to the UA teams of the past 5 years.

Add in the Pac-10 freshman of the year, Tuitama (who is the best QB we have had in years), and a good defense and you have a good team. Not a great one, but a team that will make a bowl game this season.

As for players not making into ASU, I have heard of a few players that might be close to not qualifying. I dont know much more then that so I wont comment much on it.

Dont even start on Stoops recruiting players who will qualify, when you have 1 for sure that is on the border and a former RB who murdered someone.

*correction* They both signed a LOI in December, but never enrolled.

As for open recruiting, when they live in Tucson, meet with the coaches, and enroll in a CC outside of Tucson so they can meet the requirements, yeah I guess you can call it open recruitment.

Yes, moral victories are nice, but I'd prefer to have my team win games.

So "3-4" players not making it into ASU suddenly dropped to a few?...And then to 1?

You got me on the rb who murdered someone...But he didn't show any signs of future problems, when he was recruited...while Stoops last year took a player who was kicked off of the ASU football team for pulling a knife on his roommate...

I agree we need to wins games, but we are much improved already since Stoops took over, no doubt about it.

I dont know the names of the players I have just heard there are a few who are on the borderline including Williams.

Man, I can't wait to bring up posts like these in a couple years when ASU Basketball is still trying to get back to the Tournament due to rebuilding after the Rob Evans era. And the situation Jamie Dixon or Mark Turgeon or Randy Bennett inherit will be a lot better than what Stoops had to take over.

Trust me, no Arizona fan is happy with two consecutive 3-8 seasons but most of us realize it wasn't going to take only one or two season to rebuild after Mackovic pulled the entire program into the crapper. Stoops gets this year and next and if we're still not the in upper tier of the conference, then he will be out of a job plain and simple.
