Then we see the same. Hence, a "Gannon player".

No, I didn't say that. :) I would not trade up for him, but that is not the same as what I think might happen.
I also find myself getting hung up on Walker's size to the point it minimizes the many things he does well.

I agree they don't have to draft DT. My fan draft opinion is just that the best players at 16 tend to be DT and EDGE on my board vs WR/CB/OL. So it's less of "have to" and more of "those are the positions of he best available at 16".
I agree that this team needs more good players not more picks to get more guys and special teamers. I believe the best player the Cards can get is a pass rusher.

The problem with that argument is that YOUR guy got taken. We do not know if Monti's and Gannon's guy got taken. The fact that Monti made the trade suggest that they had the same grade on Melton as the rest

I think the process is designed to that there isn't a "my guy"/"your guy" distinction. The year we missed on Patrick Mahomes, we took Haason Reddick. I remember BA being super-excited about Reddick and comparing him to Von Miller.

I'm confident that Monti is trying to wring as much emotion as possible from draft day and the war room. They're going to be happy with whatever prospects they take, because they have a young, cheap asset they believe in.

I do agree that there could be a time when there's one prospect with a significantly higher grade on the board, and I have little doubt that Monti would have a plan in place to potentially move up for that guy when the moment arrives.

Every argument for Walker I can answer with "but Jihaad Campbell does it better".

He's a better inside backer and I like him when they used him off the edge. If you want that positional flex guy I'd rather take Jihaad.

Eh we've seen guys around his size put up good numbers. If I'm drafting Walker, I'm betting on his traits and mental makeup. I've read scouts say, literally, that his leadership is legendary at Georgia. I like Walker more than Williams because of the injury questions.

I need to watch more Campbell for sure, but he's intriguing as well. He's a bit lighter than Walker and I don't think he takes on blocks the way Walker does.

I hate to refer to much to authority, but Daniel Jeremiah absolutely raves about Walker.

I think Campbell has the better frame to add weight though and has a couple of inches on Walker. Jalon seems kinda maxed out already.

@BritCard I think the EDGE class in 2025 is very similar to the WR class last year. It is very deep, especially if you project Walker and Campbell as potential EDGE options. Lots of different flavors of ice cream in that group. EDIT: obviously not as much top 10 "talent" but loaded for sure.

I’d bet my Kia Seltos that if Jalon Walker makes it to #16 he’s the pick. It’s hilarious that Jalon Walker and Jihaad Campbell were born on the same day. I believe both guys would be BPA over any edge/DT if still there at #16.

You aren’t a fan of LB’s that aren’t primary rushers. Normally I wouldn’t be either in the mid-1st but those two guys aren’t really anything like Simmons and Zaven for anyone getting PTSD.
I don’t think he’s anything like Simmons. I don’t think him & Zaven are super far off though.

I liked the Zaven pick given the options available but he was too big for an LB. Had he played for Bama or Georgia he’s probably a backup.

Btw how did I miss Harmon going sub-5.0 at 6’5” 313? Damn.

3 positions to watch for 1st round of 2025 NFL draft for Arizona Cardinals

Notable quote taken from article which begs the question, leap year or incremental gains? Soon we will know.

With the 16th pick in the draft, if the Cardinals want a player to be able to make a significant impact as a rookie in 2025, there are really only three positions they can go.

  1. Offensive line
  2. Wide receiver
  3. Inside linebacker
