Right now, we have no idea who the Pittsburgh Steelers will start at quarterback in 2025. It might be Aaron Rodgers. It might be Mason Rudolph. It might be none of the above. One thing we are confident in is that the Steelers won't be starting a rookie. In fact, if the Steelers do sign Rodgers, we might see the team pass on quarterback completely in the 2025 NFL draft and instead focus on 2026.
We decided to do a new seven-round mock draft and did not go for a quarterback at all just to see how things would play out. Instead the Steelers landed some skill-position help and some playmakers on defense.
Hampton has separated himself from the other backs in this draft and is much closer to Ashton Jeanty as the draft approaches. He's got the perfect combination of power and explosion to be a significant upgrade over Najee Harris.
A big run on defensive tackles leaves the Steelers with Joshua Farmer who has a very high ceiling as an anchor but isn't ready for full-time reps as a rookie.
Williams has NFL length and instincts and should do well in a press-heavy scheme. Williams is also a stout run defender.
McLaughlin is a first-round talent who falls because of a torn Achilles but his technique and athleticism make him one of the most talented interior linemen in the draft.
Tafuna had a breakout season in 2024 and still has plenty of room to grow as he continues to settle in as a defensive tackle after starting his career at linebacker.
Chism dominated lower-level competition and while he lacks deep speed, his route running is excellent and his quickness makes him tough to bring down in the open field.
