As the days drag on, the conflicting reports keep coming out about whether or not quarterback Aaron Rodgers is planning to play football next season or what team he does or doesn't want to play for. When we last talked about this it sounded like Rodgers was infatuated with the idea of playing for the Minnesota Vikings but the Vikings were all in on J.J. McCarthy and hadn't made an offer at all.
This prompted speculation that Rodgers could retire instead of playing which would leave the Pittsburgh Steelers with Mason Rudolph as their starting quarterback. The latest updated as once again conflicting about Rodgers and his position with the Vikings.
NFL reporter Dianna Russini is saying Minnesota is still "strongly considering" Rodgers and is monitoring the situation. She didn't mention an actual offer but it sounds like they are willing to sit and wait to see how McCarthy looks early in summer workouts.
On the other side is NFL Network's Tom Pelissero who says the Vikings have rejected multiple offers for McCarthy and while they plan to add a veteran quarterback at some point, McCarthy is the guy and this isn't changing.
This whole situation feels like it could drag on well past the 2025 NFL draft and that is bad news for the Steelers. Depending on how free agency ends is what will determine how early Pittsburgh must commit to a quarterback in the draft. We've already said the only option for Pittsburgh at this point is to bring back Russell Wilson to pair back up with DK Metcalf to keep themselves competitive in 2025.
