I haven't seen it reported anywhere else that the Cardinals are planning to interview Butler. If they were, wouldn't Urban or Somers have written about it by now?

No. Just becuase it isnt being reported doesnt mean things arent happening. They could have interviewed him yesterday for all we know. The Chiefs apparently interviewed a lot of guys even minority ones to fullfill the Rooney rule but know one knows the names of any of those coaches or when they were intervied besides Haley. Cards seem to be following the KC rule of complete silence just like a lot of other teams have been doing as of late.

IMO, Davis or Butler will make a good DC. Butler has a quicker path to an HC job if he turns out to be a good DC. Staying in Pitt and waiting for Lebeau to leave will just set him back 3-5yrs.

I'm not a big fan of Grimm having 3 jobs.. He'll be stretched to thin.. He's a great OL coach/assistant head coach, but I'd prefer there be someone dedicated to offenseive play calling.

Disagree. If we had interviewed Butler, Urban would have reported it. What would be the point of trying to keep it a secret?

That PFT link is just a repeat of what Jurecki reported. That has been the only source as far as I know.

joeschmo is correct. Whisenhunt is not telling anyone what he is doing and all we'll know after it's done is who was hired in the end. Darren Urban talks around this in his latest blog.

If we can build a philosophy that is more than just "bend but don't break", I would be overwrought with emotion

:bang:

How many times do I have to tell you guys that Pendy's defense was BREAK but don't BEND?????

That is what was so frustrating. The D would stop 'em and stop 'em and then give up a 62 yard TD pass. They'd stuff 'em on 1st and stuff 'em on 2nd and then give up an 18 yard pass on 3rd and 16. Over and over for the entire time the guy was our DC.

Calvisi was just on ESPN Radio and he said that he had heard about Butler being interviewed, but he had heard conflicting reports about it.

The longer this goes on the more I believe that Bill Davis is going to be the guy.

so true DJ, so very, very true.

The same point could be made on a game to game basis. One game was a dominating performance, then they would be lit up by some back up QB.

Some offensive coaches just knew how to torment a Clancy D -- Mike Shanahan was the poster child for this. He could take the NAU roster and put 4 tds on the Cardinal D.

I'm hoping that this is the first step forward towards Butler coming in as this team's new defensive coordinator.

Whoever winds up getting this guy in that position is not going to be disappointed. I have high hopes for the guy.

No kidding. But it didn't make any difference who was coaching. Shanahan's 4 games against the Cards Denver beat us 38-6. 38-17. 37-7. and 37-20.

And if that weren't bad enough he beat us 38-7, 31-17, 30-21 and 29-23 in preseason.

I heard that as well. And also that Carolina (or was it Green Bay) was wanting to interview him for their DC job but had to wait till after the Super Bowl, but that Butler said he wanted to stay with the Steelers. (His family is in the Cleveland area, I think it was, 100 miles away, and wants to stay in the area?)

Why would Urban report it. There have been plenty of things in the past that he hasnt reported on until it happened. The team doesnt have to tell Urban everything either, and Urban doesnt have to report anything if the team asks him not to. He does work for the team after all, but at the same time he is still a reporter who will give his opinions.

Example. Jurecki reported Jeff Rutledge was fired or not retianed on the 9th. Urban mentioned the Jurecki report in his blog that he wasnt told anything about it yet. Urban didnt say for sure that Jeff was let go until the next day in a different blog. So either Jurecki new about it before Urban, or urban was asked to wait on the info since the team didnt want to announce it until later. So if Urban didnt know about the Jeff thing until later or was asked to keep it under his hat longer what makes us think it would be any different with any other info.

So once again just becuase Urban hasnt reported it doesnt mean it isnt true or not true for that matter.

I will be happy if Butler is hired.

Also, trade Boldin... no point keeping him if he doesn't want to be here.

Why was Rutledge fired?

Same thing happened with the Clancy news.

As I recall, Haley was perfectly happy in Arizona, as well. No coach is going to say he's leaving before he gets offered another job.

If Whis wanted Butler, and Butler wanted to be here, he'd have been interviewed by now, if not hired already.

I think we can cross Butler off the list of candidates.

I'd believe Ed Bouchette, who has covered the Steelers for probaly as long as Jureki has been alive, before I'd believe the ex-Cardinals Insider

Being from Western PA, Bouchette is the real deal. I hate to believe it, but he probably wouldn't say it without a reason.
