I know it’s not universally popular, but signing Bradford gives the Cards a chance to make the playoffs next year. The contract is also specifically designed to allow the Cards to develop their QBOTF, whether it takes a year or two for him to be able to start. So you can count on the Cards to be aggressive in the draft and get a QB. This also means the Cards will have to make a major O-line decision. Do they stay with the vets, Iupati & Veldheer or do they cut them and take a chance on fixing the issue between FA & the draft? Whichever the choice, picking Bradford forces the issue on the line. The Cards obviously intend to keep Bradford on the field. They can no longer ignore the line.

I agree Harry. I think what's being lost in all this is we are no longer the "no risk it, no biscuit" offense. We will see a lot less empty backfield and more of a west coast style of offense. This should help protect Bradford to some degree.

I don't know how we are going to aggressively address the offensive line. We are going to have to trade up to get a legit QB, so that takes multiple draft picks. We don't have significant dollars to spend on what few FA linemen are out there. I get what you are stating, but options are REALLY limited.

We are not going to trade up.

1. Keim is cheap.
2. We cannot compete with the bills or jets even if we wanted to due to our draft picks this year.

We're probably not trading up for a QB. I think that's where we stand. To bring in Cousins/Norwood, Veldheer or Iupati or both were going to have to go, and it might just stand that we stick with Veldheer and Iupati as part of this line while investing a few draft picks into offensive linemen.

Counting on us moving for one of the top 4 QBs probably isn't prudent. We don't have the ammo - everyone ahead of us that "addressed" the position is still in need of those guys too.

With limited cap room I ask you these questions?

1) how do you fix the Oline with small cap room left in FA?

2) how do you fix the Oline if you use a bunch of draft capital moving up in the draft high for a QB?

I know all these issues can’t be fixed in 1 offseason but it sure seems like Keim has to either pick 1 or the other. Draft a QB high or fix the Oline

Draft a QB. Let Bradford get killed behind a substandard OL. Then repair it next year for our real QB

I don't know if you saw my post before this, and I'm not Harry, but "fixing" the offensive line would include cutting Iupati or Veldheer if someone was signed on the line. We wouldn't keep them when signing their replacement.

What's to say we're trading up high for a QB? At this point, it would be foolhardy, and Keim is relatively conservative.

You don’t live up you take the QB available when you pick...

As far as fixing the OL??? Got me we after Glennon we should be in the negative with cap space

Yep.

Exactly my point. This plan is just dumb & likely will get Keim fired in 2-3 years unless he gets lucky & hits pay dirt on the 5th, 6th or 7th best rated QB in this draft. In all likelihood the only QBs we might have a shot at are Allen (maybe), Jackson or Rudolph at 15. Ugh

A bad bad day for Big Red imo. I would have rather added McCarron or McCown then traded up top 4 & drafted a QB then added another in round 3,4 or 5 & rolled the dice.

I would cut Veldheer & Iupati and sign Solder. Matthieu is supposedly re-working his contract. I would use that money on Zach Brown and maybe the BAL C. You can get solid OGs in the draft along with CBs and WRs.

I don't know if Solder can come here even if he wanted to. He has a special situation where has a kid with some disease or something. He has to be near a world class facility for it.

They were talking about it on ESPN or NFLN and said the Texans might want him and Houston has the facilities to make it work. Have no clue if the Phx area can compete for that specific disease or whatever.

Signing Bradford wasn't a bad thing. NOT an optimal, for-the-future QB, but it's a friendly deal and, well, we needed a QB. It was the Glennon signing that was Keim's major sin. Just an ass move that shows his true colors and really hurts us.

You have to keep June 1 in mind. If Iupati & TM are cut after that date there’s much less dead money & the Cards recoup $10+ mil in cap space. I think when TM’s agent realized he’d be cut after that date when most team’s cap money was committed, he’d better renegotiate. There’s also another $9 mil if they cut Buc. At worst he’ll renegotiate or he will go. I’m not crazy about wasting money on Glennon, but the sky hasn’t fallen yet. Of course the Cards will need $6.6 mil for draft picks, but there is space. There are also a few other contracts, like Mauro’s, if need be. Would Fitz restructure? Never say never.

I don't think Veldheer is going anywhere especially getting cut. As for Iupati, I think there is better than a 70% chance he remains on the roster also. I base this simply on the history of SK and MB. No facts, no concrete reasons, just looking back at how these two have operated in the past and predicting the same or similar MO going forward.

How does signing one of the better backups in the league "hurt" the Cardinals?!? Have contract details been released? Even with a rookie presumably about to be drafted, with Bradford as starter the Cardinals need a decent backup QB. So, they got one. Makes sense to me.

Harry what are your thoughts on an upgraded line just based on better coaching and hopefully a new blocking scheme?

I’m thinking the less developed linemen we have should reach a higher performance level.

If we pound the ball projection becomes a bit easier when the QB isn’t standing in a pocket waiting for long developing route? Just sayin...

Because Keim has shown his hand--there's not going to be a top QBOF drafted this year. If they were thinking of going that route, we wouldn't have gotten a 'top backup'--the rook would have been the backup, learning as much as possible. The 3rd QB is a scout/practice squad player. Keim's idea of 'aggressively' addressing the QB position is Bradford, Glennon, and cold leftovers in the 3rd spot. If that's aggressive then I'm a sprinter. (I'm over 300lbs with bad knees, ftr)

Isn't that the coaches decision? I mean it is very possible that MG won't even make the team. It's not like this decision is all you can do for another year. Your posts have been comical ever the last day and a half. The sky is not falling, it just a game Focker...:lmao::clapping:

And when we ignore the position in the draft again, or take a guy in the 3rd, 4th, 5th round or later?

Keim wants to win now with Bradford and Glennon. BUT! Bradford can't stay on the field, while Glennon simply sucks. Even if Bradford could stay healthy, I highly doubt that he could lead us anywhere with our abysmal OL and lack of weapons. I don't even know a WR other than Fitz on our current roster if you ask me right now. DJ is great obviously, but he can't block for himself. Last year we could've easily taken our QBOF who would be ready by now. At this point I honestly don't care about BPA or need in the draft, just go ahead and select a QB in the 1st so we have something to look forward to! Trade up and give up our 2019 1st if necessary. I can't stand these ugly QB charades anymore!

I don’t see the coaching change making much difference in the skills of the players. Better scheming and play calling will help more. The Cards figure to sign some vets offering short term help. If this team’s smart it will have a road grader mentality.
