I love watching this kid play; he will be the next great Cardinal receiver...

Yes he is. Size, speed, and hands. He is on the 53, no question.

I just don't get how someone with his obvious talent goes without getting drafted. I watched his highlights on youtube and he looked great. You would think with all the scouts for all the teams somebody would have realized. It seems like they think too much about the picks and the obvious ones get away. Man I am glad he was overlooked.

Its like pariah and I already stated. I would seriously consider keeping this kid at #2 and moving Breaston to 3. I love me some Breaston and he is a good WR. But Williams has the physical skills that just cant be taught. His natural ability is evident and he has that true play making ability that Breaston just doesn't have IMO. His size, speed, and jumping ability against teams #2 CB is very enticing.

I know it wont happen. but I would certainly give it some thought if I was the coach.

It will at least happen in 2012 if there's no football next season because they diffantly wont resign Stevie to a big deal.

Now, lets get him in a real Wr #...81 because Dray is getting the axe or do they keep their number on the PS?

Yes, totally agree.

The thing aboout Whiz is that he does not care about salaries or draft position. If you are the best you play.

On the other hand he is really reluctant to start rookies until around game 6 or so.

Dunno what will happen, but I am for sure rooting for the kid.

Ill admit i personnally though Andre Roberts would be the relevation amongst WR we drafted or picked up after the draft but there is no doubt that Stephen Williams has been an amazingly pleasant surprise. He has everything you look for in an elite type receiver. What i recognise straight away is that he has an incredible range. Usually that a baseball term but in terms of Wide Receiver im referring to how much of a catching zone a receiver gives a catcher. Because of his excellent footwork and top notch hands Williams makes it easier time and time again for a quarterback to go to him. He will catch a lot of throws that most receivers dont because he has the footwork to make the quick adjustment to change his run towards the throws direction and then has the knack of snapping the ball out of the air even if it is more in line with the CB's run. Finally ive also noticed that he can make a Cornerbacks life very tough. In the Chicago everybody on the field knew Anderson was looking to find Stephen time and time again but because Stephen appears to pick up what the CB and safety are looking to do against him very quickly he makes very quick adjustments to his run making the quarterbacks job a whole lot easier as they find he is in a good spot everytime. Simply put Williams shows both the athleticism and intelligence that you only see in elite receivers.

One thing i would like to reiterate is that though Williams has gone above all expectations it is extremely premature to lobby for him to be made the #2 receiver for several reasons. He is a young guy making his way into the NFL the hard way and limiting his exposure and the pressure on him is vital in easing him the NFL and the team. This is why Ken has a policy of not overexposing rookies and shattering their confidence by having them go agains the elite of the NFL from day one. Furthermore Stephen has been very good in pre-season which isnt the platform we should be judging on if we are looking to make him our #2 receiver down the line. Ive become one of his biggest fans but i do believe it is in the teams interest to be as conservative with Williams as we have been with most of our rookies for his own good as well as the teams, eventhough he has shown he could very well be one of our top receivers for many years to come.

No. 2?

He doesn't know the full route tree, yet, or when to break off patterns.

He's no. 4 on the depth chart and rising IMO.

Even if he was ready for the #2 spot, Whiz would make him work his way onto the field. but I agree with you he would be a great accompanyment to Fitz

He was on Gambo & Ash about three weeks ago and they mentioned one reason he did not get drafted was because he does not run his routes well. Williams said he is working on that part of his game.

The thing I noticed right away and it's continued against first teamers is that he gets actual separation from DB's. We always talk about how Fitz and Boldin didn't get separation because they weren't blazing fast, they just used their bodies to create space, Williams actually runs by people.

Add in his size and give him some time to fill out and learn from watching Fitz and he's going to be even better.

several of us compared him to Colston on the game thread last night he really does strike me as a kid who can eventually be that kind of player.

I thought there were some consistency and talent issues at his college QB position and so they ran the ball excessively.

even though I still criticize the FO for various things, I've got to hand it to them on this... they can evaluate the HELL out of WRs!

Having a true blue burner on this team opposite Fitz will make life hell on opposing defenses... once we get a QB who can get them the ball! :)

Seemed to run his routes fine yesterday.

He was the wr who played really well from Toledo right? If so then this kid has a real chance to become something special for the cardinals,
It's only preseason so it's kind of hard to judge but if he gets a chance to play in the reg season and tears it up then I will be extremly happy because this kid has both speed and size. The catch that he made against the bears last night where he got hit hard and still hanged on was veteran type catch, I hope he pans out.

This is one thread I think all Cardinal fans can agree on, no controversy here.

The guy can flat out play....

I like Komar too he catches nearly everything thrown at. Does Komar make the roster over Jones, do we carry 6 WRs?

Is it possible we stash Roberts on IR for the year?

This kid looks like a #1. Perfect fit at #2 with Fitz. Push Breaston back to #3. I'm still high on Doucet.

I think this year he is in the top 3 very quickly. We could literally replace Boldin with him, and keep Breaston and Doucet in the same roles as last year. Still a UDFA rookie, but I think he's going to do it. It's obvious he's head and shoulders above most NFL receivers already.

To think the 4th and Niners had to spend a #1 for Crabtree and we lucked into a possibly better receiver, in Williams is hilarious.

I picked him up in my public yahoo league. A bit premature, but what the hell I can see the kid catching a td or two late in the season regardless if he starts strong or not. It's coming, it's just a matter of when.

I hope so, he just does not miss catches. He is better than Jones.

Dunno, I'm thinking the Cards are leaning 5, especially if they carry 4 QBs and want to run more.
