There's specualtion that he will be cut in NE. If I was the Cards, I would offer up a late round pick for him. He'd instantly be the #2 back on the team and would be a nice complement to Ellington.

Not as much as you think. He's only had 9 career fumbles in 555 carries, or 1.6% fumble rate.

For comparison I randomly picked 5 top RB's to compare him with:

Charles = 19 in 1043 carries = 1.8%
AP= 31 fumbles in 2033 carries = 1.5%
McCoy = 10 in 1149 = .08%
Gore = 34 in 2087 = 1.6%
Beanie Wells = 10 in 625 = 1.6%

When looking at it, his fumble rate is probably about average.

He is way too talented to be cut, so the only way to acquire him would be with a pick. I would definitely do it...he is an excellent RB that just happens to be in the coaches doghouse.

I don't know if he'll be cut, but Shane Vareen was running with the ones, and had two TD's in the 3rd preseason game. He is also a good receiving threat. He might make Ridley expendable, but normally a guy like that would just be pushed down the depth chart.

Belichick really like rookie James White too.

Here's a roster projection from one their writers. I'm guessing he'd be the equivalent of Somers projecting the Cards final 53.

The fumbling issues have been a concern (there are fans here who are fed up with it)---but his career yards per carry in 3 years with the Pats is the highest in team history (4.45 yards on 445/2,024). And his salary isn't an issue ay $940K, so it's unlikely the Pats are going to release him. But, he would be a nice compliment to Ellington, as you suggest and it would be worth a phone call to see what the Pats would want, if indeed they would listen.

How about Rob Housler for Stevan Ridley? The same beat writer has the Pats having only 2 TEs worth keeping thus far.

He funbles way too much for what he does as a RB. Gore, McCoy, AP, and Charles all do way more for their offense than Ridley would do for us.

Do you really want your specific role (power, close the game out) back to have fumbling issues? No, you don't. Not worth a draft pick.

Interesting, within that link there is another article from July 1st which showed White high on their (ESPN) list.

Special teams play might come in play with others to supplant Ridley, if these reports are accurate.

I don't think he fumbles more than normal. In fact, numbers show he doesn't. His problem is that he plays for NE and with all the exposure they get, it seems like he fumbles more than he actually does. If he was playing for Jax, I doubt we'd ever hear about his fumbling.

I live here and follow every game and Ridley's fumbles are like Mendy's last year---many of them are drive and momentum breakers. Not that there ever is a good time to fumble---but some times are far worse than others---and the fans here are fed up with Ridley. Not kidding. They are fed up.

If he's cut he's likely subject to waivers which he wouldn't drop it us before getting snatched up.

He fumbles but they think fumbling can be cured ie. Adrian Peterson

I watched part of the Patriots game and thought that Ridley looked good. Also, was watching Brady as a possible QB for my Fantasy team (we use two) but decided against Brady as they don't pass enough for yardage, and run in a lot of TD's. But Brady, for real FB, is still a great QB.

Love that idea. Or a low round pick. I'd take Ridley is a Second.

I agree with you here. Every fumble is highlighted by Belichick because he takes him out and doesn't put him back in. Other teams don't usually do to that to their star RB

I watch most Patriot games, and I think Ridley would be a star but for the fumbles. Instead he has split time with Shane Vereen and laGarrette the Blount. Or he has been hurt. So the fumble rate might not be bad, but I wonder if the fumbles per game stat would give a clearer picture. Of course, none of this could make any sense.

It might also be that Ridley saves his fumbles for horrible key moments against the Ravens...

:)

That may have alot to do with it. Maybe he doesn't fumble more than normal but does it at gut-wrenching times.

Over the past two years 1 fumble every 58.5 carries. 1.7%. Essentially not getting better.

2011 - 1.1%
2012 - 1.3%
2013 - 2.2%
