Return specialist. They call him one of the best in the country... They seemed to like it.

Strengths:
Adequate size and bulk...Very good timed speed...Quick, elusive and agile with a burst...Great vision and can be a terror in the open field...A versatile weapon on trick plays and reverses...Terrific return man...Big play threat...Lots of experience.

Weaknesses:
Durability is a concern...Not very strong or physical...Average route runner...Does not work the middle of the field...Will drop some catchable balls...Did not make as many game changing plays as expected...Has trouble beating the jam...Blocking?

Notes:
Burst onto the scene as a freshman but despite a solid senior campaign he was never really able to recapture that glory...Probably profiles as a #4 or #5 wideout and return specialist at the next level...He is not nearly the pro prospect that his college hype would lead you to believe and he's been a bit of an underachiever.

A WR in the 5th .. ?? we should have gone CB and gone return man later .. if we need one ... I am not so sure on this pick .. how about TE ..??

Pros: Surprised with his straightline speed at the combine. An athletic player who does well on special teams. Good hands, and above average route runner. Can motor with the ball after the catch to pick up additional yards.
Cons: Doesn't play up to his timed speed. Has started for several seaons, but has failed to show progress from year to year, making it questionable he will do so to make it in the NFL. Not very aggressive in fighting for balls in the air. His skills will likely intrigue some team who feel they can 'coach him up', but unless a light goes on upstairs hes not going to be around many years.

he's poor man's Ted Ginn. A very good return man but really never progressed as a WR while at Michigan.

I was hoping we'd address our PR/KR position. There's more need there than at TE or CB.

This is a solid pick for the 5th round. He was regarded as one of the best return men in the country, and in the history of Michigan football. Our return game last year was horrible. Even if hes stictly a returner I like this pick alot.

You can't get too upset with a 5th round pick but i thought there were definitely better prospects out there. He'll be a return man and that's it. We need players that can contribute on the field. Another pick for need.

Where's that guy who posts the Scout's Inc reports?

I question the pick because of the LBs and CBs there, but Breaston is a pretty good returner. He was Ted Ginn before Ted Ginn.

Very good to great Punt return man. Top 20 in the nation since he has started doing it, and in a tough division. Consistently good.

He is a below average kickoff return man though.

I think he even plays gunner or another spot on special teams D as well.

Wont give you much as a WR though IMO.

Not my favorite pick even though i saw it from a mile away since there where no more CB's with punt return ability. I think we could have waited until the 7 round for a punt return man with close to the same ability, but I can see where the coaches are coming from with this pick, and its all about field position.

And to be honest at about the mid 4th round pick the talent level dropped off the face of the map IMO anyways.

Breaston is worthless as a receiver.

You can when Ben Patrick is on the board, the best player remaining in the draft. Whiz likes a two TE set he has said we are weak at TE and you pass a good blocking TE for a freaking punt returner. Give me a break this draft really really sucks with the exception of two picks.

We've had some decent kickoff return options, but we struggle in punt returns last decade. I would have preferred Alexander also or a guard, but I am not unhappy with our pick.

Its all about field position. Its been along time since we have had a good return guy. Whiz is playing the odds. Improve you chances of winning games with better field position, better running & stopping the run. Pluss controlling the LOS.

If he's one of the best return men in the country, and his other skills are pretty shabby, what would have been left in rd 7 or udfa that we could use as a punt returner? That might have affected their thinking.

Blocking TE?

Did someone say that Patrick was a good pass catching TE? If so, I would like to know what that assessment was based on, as everything I've read says that his forte as a TE is as a pass catcher? Or was it just a way of ranting?

Just some analysis from NFL.com on Patrick:

Despite his size, Patrick is more of a finesse type who will shy away from contact, especially when asked to block … Has good strength, but seems to lack the desire to sustain and defenders can push him back into the pocket, making him a liability in pass protection …

I'm not so sure he is a good blocking TE but I have never seen him play.
