Steve is moving his show to LA and released this memo to the staff. It was leaked. Predictably, everyone is angry. Saying Steve is a diva and full of himself.

I do see how the memo comes off as cold, however I think I know where hes coming from. To me, I can understand how having somebody in your face every second for 10 hours can be draining. Notably the part that says "I am seeking more free time for me throughout the day."

I dont think it was meant to come off as cold or diva-ish. I think the guy just genuinely wants a little more quiet in his work day. He doesnt want some intern or production assistant in his ear all day, everyday.

Full memo below.

Good morning, everyone. Welcome back.
I'd like you all to review and adhere to the following notes and rules for Season 5 of my talk show.
There will be no meetings in my dressing room. No stopping by or popping in. NO ONE.
Do not come to my dressing room unless invited.
Do not open my dressing room door. IF YOU OPEN MY DOOR, EXPECT TO BE REMOVED.
My security team will stop everyone from standing at my door who have the intent to see or speak to me.
I want all the ambushing to stop now. That includes TV staff.
You must schedule an appointment.
I have been taken advantage of by my lenient policy in the past. This ends now. NO MORE.
Do not approach me while I'm in the makeup chair unless I ask to speak with you directly. Either knock or use the doorbell.
I am seeking more free time for me throughout the day.
Do not wait in any hallway to speak to me. I hate being ambushed. Please make an appointment.
I promise you I will not entertain you in the hallway, and do not attempt to walk with me.
If you're reading this, yes, I mean you.
Everyone, do not take offense to the new way of doing business. It is for the good of my personal life and enjoyment.
Thank you all,
Steve Harvey

But of course, the world is outraged.

I'm offended that he wrote "free time for me" instead of "free time for myself," but otherwise, I can appreciate where he's coming from. I'm hardly a celebrity, but my job does subject me to lots of "ambushing," and it does get exhausting and soul-draining after a while.

eh... I've actually got no problem with it. At least he's saying upfront that he's going to be a jerk to people if they bother him. Celebs are people too and the constant barrage of others asking them for whatever probably drives them crazy.

Everybody is outraged? I'm not. Good for him. Sounds like things were way too lax in the past.

I wish I could make those rules but there aren't enough minutes in the day for me to disallow the "ambushing." I was shocked to discover two years ago that I became the "walk with me" guy at work.
