MJ interviewed Steve Loney this morning, pretty good interview. I thought somebody would have put it up already, I'm going to try and tell the main points from memory.

  1. Working hard on technique, footwork and communication. They aren't hitting yet, but he thinks they've come a long way.
  2. "Tore the rearview mirror off the car." They aren't talking about last year. Loney doesn't care about people's reps, he only cares about the experiences he is having with those players.
  3. Talked about protections and schemes. Said there is a lot of good ones out there, they just need to find the right one that fits what they are trying to do. He never asks players to do something they can't do. Is getting on the same page with Rowen.
  4. Is pleased with Lutui, Brown and Stepanivich (sp.) Brown coming into his own. Lutui is adjusting to the tempo of the NFL, but says he hits the bags with a nice base. Step is finally healthy.
  5. Wants to improve C/QB communication. If those two are on the same page, will improve Defense recognition, and they'll pick up the Hot Reads, negating blitzes.
  6. Not a yeller, but commands respect from his players. He has loads of experience. I personally, think the Line will respond real well to his style.

Good post. MJ's opinion was that the season will come down to these five guys and I would tend to agree with him. Even if the line is only average this year, it should be a fun offense to watch.

BTW, I wish MJ would spend more time on stuff like this and less on what he does at the clubs. :|

I honestly think that he is going to make a big difference in the way the O-line plays. Sometimes all it takes is the coach.

I completely agree. MJ must think he is some type of player cause he always talks about his nights out at the dance club, strip club, any other club he may be going to and drinking.

Thanks for the post. Loney has many things on his side. Step, Brown and others returning from injuries. Pick up's of Lutui and Brown to the mix, as well as Step going into his 3rd year healthy knowing this offense. And the best part of this new ly coached line has got to be the "EDGE".

Exactly. Can't have a good o-line when your o-line coach was trying to make the team a year earlier.

Nice post.

I hope no mention of Oliver Ross isn't a bad omen.

"..And in this corner.."

OLIVER WHO? Surely you are not speaking of "Falling-Gate False-Start ORoss...we were screwed by the Steelers[the truth hurts, Green/Graves]...Let's let our Offensive Coordinator or Stev Loney pick on the OLine from now on SHALL WE?

Perhaps Lutui may end up at right tackle, since Wells appears to be the starting left guard and Stepanovich looks to be more secure at center than I thought he'd be.

I do hope that Loney can improve the offensive line. The o-line is the Cards' only glaring weakness and if it can at least be average I think this team is going to have a great season. A line of Davis, Lutui, Stepanovic, Brown and Ross shouldn't be too bad. Ross it terrible, but I'm hoping the rest do well.
