Steve Smith better than Anquan Boldin at after-the-catch running?

Difficult to campare the two. They're probably the to biggest playmakers at WR in the league (Not saying that there're the best, but they have the ability to make something out of nohing like nobody else).

But with that said... Smith is the biggest playmaker in the league IMO.

Good thread.

Yes, running with the ball is running with the ball. I personally think the more dangerous player can break tackles.

You are right Smith makes a guy miss and he is gone. The Eric Green incident at home he made a move and was gone. The saftey got toasted as well.

Boldin just runs through the CB, and the saftey (usually the saftey hurts himself trying to tackle Q) and he is not exactly "gone" but he is off for a big gain.

Two different styles, and I prefer to run over a defense not around it.

As for a trade ? Nah.

Why trade our "over the middle" receiver for another player who can stretch the field ?

The trade would be Fitz for Smith. Which I would not do either. Since Fitz is a great WR at stretching the field for us. He may not be better than Smith but he is a perfect fit for the Cardinals.

Once again GREAT thread....I love talking about how good our WR tandem is.

Oh yeah....and BOBCAT that avatar kicks butt!

But Q gets hit by other teams players while smith is untouched. If Smith was ever hit like Q is, he would be stopped in a NY minute. Great speed but really cannot take a hit like Q.

Would you trade Q for Steve Smith? I would make that trade for a couple of reasons.

Smith would provide us with the deep threat this team needs. Smith is a better YAC receiver than Q.

Q is phenominal but Smith may be the best receiver in the NFL right now.

Smith can out run just about every player in the NFL but Q can't break tackles against just about every player.

Both are top notch receivers who make huge plays for their teams, Smith is just a bit better.

Boldin is a better team first guy....Smith has a bit of an attitude.

But there is no question.....he is ahead of Q in terms of game breaking talent.

Quote from Clayton:

The Bears used a lot of Cover 2 and Cover 3 schemes that often gave Smith free releases from the line of scrimmage or had him in areas in which one cornerback had to contain him for 10-15 yards. That's not wise. Smith is the Panthers' offense. He's the best run-after-the-catch receiver in football, so the key is disrupting him in routes and making sure he is double covered.

Steve Smith is amazing. But better than Anquan after the catch? That is debatable I would think...

I assume most of you saw Steve Smith absolutely lose it in yesterdays game. He was in a Coaches face on the sideline for several minutes and I can only imagine what he was saying. I am surprised the Coach took it. He was obviously frustrated over the heavy coverage he was getting and unable to get the ball. I can see how this guy got kicked out of a game recently. He seemed somewhat out of control. I am not sure we have heard the last of this.

Bit of an attitude?? He broke some dudes face and ended his career. Back in 2002, after a film session, he beat some PS player so badly the guy had to go to the hospital with facial injuries. Also got into a fight that year in TC.

Was Steve Smith the best WR in the league this year?? Yes

Does he have gigantic anger issues?? Obviously still

Does anger=long term success?? No

A couple of times Smith was taken down by an arm tackle yesterday.

Boldin has beaten that kind of double, and triple coverage before. Breaking 2 to 3 tackle per catch.

Boldin would have had a lot more success in yesterdays game. Especially when Smith pulled up on a catchable pass over the middle.

Boldin is better at catching the ball over the middle and running with it. That is just my opinion.

Agreed. I hope he settles down for his own sake.
