You're joking, right? Sullivan was easily one of the worst, if not the worst, QB's in ASU history. I don't feel like scrolling threw the record books pre-1990 but his season last year has to be the worst of all time.

110 QB rating ranked him 107th out of 115 D1 QB's. This isn't the NFL where a 110 QB rating is good... A 110 is AWFUL in college.

6.2 YPA ranked him 105th out of 115 D1 QB's.

53% completion percentage ranked him 104th out of 115 D1 QB's.

1,900 passing yards ranked him 87th out of 115 (granted, he didn't play 2 games).

Threw for more than 250 yds twice.

About the only bright spot was he threw for more TD's than INT's. Doesn't say much when you only throw 10 TD's compared to 9 INT's.

As you said, there was more to the problem than just Sullivan but he is easily one of the worst ASU QB's ever.

Much of that was a function of the offense and the inability of receivers to get open. In addition, he was TOLD to throw the ball away after going through his reads. There was no coming back to a developing route because Erickson didn't want to take a sack. There were big red X's on some routes and were only used to clear out space underneath. ASU didn't not take the field in any game with a full playbook or the full confidence in the passing game because of it.

Oz says he's not transferring:
"You've got to go with what's best for the team, and Coach feels like that's Steven right now," said Osweiler, who is expected to play in the season opener. "I'm going to come out each day and continue to get better. I've got a lot of years left here.

"Coach has a plan for me, and he's always going to do what's best in my interest. I'm going nowhere. It's sunny here year-round. I love it."

BECAUSE SULLIVAN WAS TERRIBLE. The plan was clearly to try and mitigate the damage he could create by limiting his opportunity to do so. I can't believe you seriously are sticking up for Sullivan, statistically he was awful, but watching him in person was pure torture. They may as well have brought someone in from the stands, I doubt they would be much worse. (I'm exaggerating, but not by much)

I've put the time in on tape, Chris. I've watched (and re-watched) almost every single play from last season. A lot of the blame put on Sullivan by the fans was much more spread out among the receivers and the staff. I can prove it, and Erickson has more or less confirmed it this spring. Ask Broussard about what the passing game looked like last year. He called it "playground ball," because the receivers were bailing on their assigned routes almost from the snap. Guys were rarely where they were supposed to be. It was anarchy.

So basically the recievers refused to run the right routes the entire year, and Erickson did nothing about it, nor was it ever mentioned once all year in print? Color me skeptical. Trust me, in general I trust you on most stuff, but this is too counter to what I saw to believe. Even worse, if true, it shows this coaching staff has absolutely no control over anybody on the team. (Which could be partially true)

Perhaps a portion of the blame can be put on others, but even with a perfect surrounding cast, I could never see Sullivan as more than a below average qb option.

I never said Sullivan was Peyton Manning, but there was nothing FUNCTIONALLY wrong with his skills and mechanics that prohibited him from being moderately successful. Aside from almost ZERO hands-on coaching from Olson (lots of film room criticism though) for any of the QBs, the offense did absolutely nothing to aid their QB.

I'm not out to win an argument about Sullivan at this point because I have no desire to be at odds with anyone here, but I have three relevant points:

- The two new QBs aren't terribly better than Sullivan. In many ways they come with similar physical challenges related to footwork and accuracy, though Threet seems to have had a breakthrough lately.

- Getting rid of Olson was critical. He was absolutely destroying the confidence of our QBs. I blame him for Oz not developing his freshman year. Oz actually got WORSE during the season. One of the reasons he's had a challenging time adjusting to the new offense is Mazzone is giving him his first real QB coaching he's ever had in his life.

- People need to be patient and less quick to heap abuse on ASU QBs. They're still going to struggle at times this year, and not all of it is going to be their fault. There are still going to be times the OL struggles, receivers aren't terribly great route runners yet, and the running game is a work in progress. I see even greater division among SD fans if Threet struggles because now there will be an immediate push to send in Oz.
